New proposal for driving license, vehicle registration fee; Up to 50 time increase in charges

Authorities submitted a new proposal for the approval of fatwa and legislation committee to increase various fees for driving license and vehicle registration.

The fee for driving license for expatriates is increased to 500 Dinars from the current 10 KD fee in the proposal. However the drivers under domestic visa are exempted from this increase, Al-Rai Arabic newspaper reported.

The proposal also suggests increase in fee for vehicle registration, renewal and transfer of ownership. According to proposal the registration charges for vehicles under 10 years old is increase from the current 10 KD to 300 KD. The same fee is applicable for ownership transfer of any vehicles under 10 years old. The renewal fee for these vehicles increased to 100 KD from the current 5 KD in the proposal.

Meanwhile the charges for ownership transfer of any vehicle which is 10 years old and more will be 400 KD. The renewal fee for these vehicle will be 200 KD. However, expatriates who own a second vehicle, which is 10 years or more old, the ownership transfer fee will be 500 KD and renewal fee will be 300 KD according to the new proposal.

The proposal also suggest to impose toll on major highways and to stop issuing new license for roaming taxis until further notice. Authorities also submitted a proposal to start a separate FM radio channel to update the people on traffic updates.
