Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa scoops 20 awards at Horeca

A record-breaking year for the culinary team

Talented chefs from Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa competed in a series of live culinary shows and won a total of 20 medals at the sixth edition of Kuwait’s leading food and beverage competition, the annual Hotel, Restaurant and Catering Awards (HORECA) in Kuwait.

Spearheaded by the hotel’s new Executive Chef Serkan Yelkenbasan, the culinary team exceeded the number of medals this year with five gold awards in the wedding cake display competition, three plated desserts, live pasta contest and live meat team competition. Another six silver medals were won for the themed celebration cake, live sushi contest, cold platter display, cold mezzah live and mystery basket competition.

The team was also awarded a further seven bronze medals in the categories of live sandwich, mystery basket, six-course set menu display, Asian cuisine live, live pasta, cold mezzah live and three plated dessert display in addition to two Boecker Hygiene Awards in the categories of live sandwich and Asian cuisine live.

General Manager, Hakan Petek, said: “I am incredibly proud of our culinary team at Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa and continuous participation in the country’s highly awaited hospitality exhibition. Our chefs have demonstrated their commitment to culinary excellence and dedication to deliver the most memorable dining experiences to our guests. I wish to congratulate them for the outstanding level of creativity and passion in their performances”.

More than 20 chefs participated in the exhibition’s various categories and were judged by a panel of international chefs from the Middle East and Europe, along with members from the World Association of Chefs Society.
