Abbassiya Issue: Indian Ambassador held discussion with Farwaniya Governor

Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Sri Sunil Jain met the Governor of Farwaniya Sheikh Faisal Al-Humoud Al-Malik Al-Sabah and shared his concern about the increasing crime against expatriates in Abbassiya area where the majority Indian expatriates are living. The Ministry of Interior officials and high officials from all police stations under Farwaniya Governorate were also part of the meeting where the Ambassador apprised him of the concern of Indian community. Indian Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Sri Subhashish Goldar and Community Welfare Officer Sri K K Pahel also attended the meeting.

The increasing crime rate in Abbassiya in recent days were several attacks and robbery attempts were reported became a serious concern for the community. Last week one male Nurse was attacked when some miscreants were trying to rob his money. Many other similar incidences were also reported from the area. One Indian national from Tamil Nadu became a victim of a serious attack when the miscreants ran their vehicle over him after robbing his money.

Farwaniya Governor assured that all possible measures will be taken to provide the safety and security of expatriates living in Jleeb Al Shuyoukh. MoI officials assured that all possible steps will be taken care to provide the safety and security of the residents. The police patrolling will be increased in this area and all Indian nationals are requested to carry their valid documents with them to avoid any unwanted situation. The Governor also advised that Indian nationals should abide by laws of Kuwait and should take all precautions to avoid being targeted by criminals in the area.

Earlier several community members sent their concern to external affairs minister Smt Sushma Swaraj and the Minister had requested the Indian Embassy to take up the issue seriously.
