IBPC organizing Santoor Concert on 28th January 2017

Indian Business & Professional Council-Kuwait (IBPC), in celebration of India's Republic Day, is organizing Santoor Concert an exciting Indian Classical Music concert featuring Maestro Rahul Sharma (Santoor)and Maestro Aditya Kalyanpur (Tabla)on 28th January 2017. The concert is held at Yarmouk Cultural Center (Dar Al Athar Al Islaamiyya), Block 3, street 3, opposite Gulf Bank and Boubyan Bank, Yarmouk, Kuwait from 6:00 PM. Doors open at 5.30 PM.

Rahul Shivkumar Sharma



He was named Rahul after musician Rahul Dev Burman by his father, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Rahul started playing the harmonium at an early age. Learning the santoor at age 13, he wasn't completely sure of pursuing music until he turned 17. After studying economics at Mumbai's Mithibai College, Rahul Sharma began performing with his father. He started accompanying him in concerts in 1996, at the age of 24.
Rahul sharma plays the 100 stringed Kashmiri santoor. Having learnt from his father and Guru Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Rahul has taken the santoor into world music with various collaborations. Having done around 60 albums, in various genres some of Rahul's important collaborations are NAMASTE INDIA with Grammy Award-winning American Saxophonist Kenny G.
Rahul and KennyG's album reached #2 on Billboard world charts and #4 on Board Smooth Jazz Charts.
Rahul also collaborated with Grammy-winning ELECTRONICA group DEEP FOREST, founded by Eric Miquet on 10 tracks which combined Indian folk and santoor with electronica.
Rahul has also experimented by taking the santoor into the Rock Genre with his album The Rebel.
Rahul Sharma has been awarded The SANGEET NATAK ACADEMI Award (Bismillah Khan yuva puruskar) for Hindustani instrumental music.
Rahul has performed in North America and throughout Europe, and at various folk and world music festivals.
He has released several CDs, some solo and some with his father. He has collaborated with international musicians such as pianist Richard Clayderman andKeyboardist Kersi Lord. The Confluence (2002) has mostly Indian titles, six of which were composed by Rahul Sharma himself. He provided the music for the Hindi feature film Mujhse Dosti Karoge, for which he received the award in the "Best Debut-Music Director" category at the 2002 Zee Bollywood Music Awards. His last album Time Traveler, which has been described as New Age , was released 2006. He has since released several Albums which were best sellers.
He has also collaborated with Ustad Zakir Hussain and plays concerts with him regularly.
Rahul Sharma is the new Brand Ambassador for TAJ MAHAL TEA.

Aditya Kalyanpur



Aditya Kalyanpur is a tabla maestro who has worked with some of the most legendary individuals in the music industry. His playing can be heard on Katy Perry’s “Legendary Lovers” from her multi-platinum album “Prism,” he’s recorded with The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, and he’s performed with Oscar- and GRAMMY-winning composer A.R. Rahman (“Slumdog Millionaire). A child prodigy, Aditya studied tabla under the aegis of the late, legendary Ustad Allah Rakha, famous for his collaboration with Indian global icon, Pandit Ravi Shankar, and his son, two-time GRAMMY-winner Ustad Zakir Hussain. Aditya received his diploma in Music from the University of Mumbai with an unprecedented ‘A’ grade. And in 1999 received his Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbia’s Mithibai College. He’s since recorded with GRAMMY-nominated John Beasley (“American Idol” music director), performed with GRAMMY-winner John Popper at the prestigious Carnegie Hall NYC, and Founded the New England School of Music in Boston, MA, as well as established the Shyamal Music Foundation in Mumbai, India – non-profit created to promote, preserve and propagate Indian classical music by giving a platform to the next generation of talented musicians. He regularly accompanies classical greats like Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Pt Vishwamohan Bhatt, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt Jasraj etc etc.
