Thursday, December 1, 2016

The Departments of Social Science and English of Indian Educational School, (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kuwait) conjointly celebrated constitution day on November 26, 2016, another initiative taken up by the CBSE to commemorate the adoption of constitution of India. The students read the Preamble to the Constitution to India in their Social Science classes.

Further a debate on the motion "Indian constitution is the best constitution" was held in the school auditorium, where 16 debaters chosen from the initial 60 students of grades 8 and 9 fought tooth and nail with a variety of state-of-the-art arrows of words from their ever-full quiver of knowledge.

The debate heralded a new enthusiasm in the students to learn and research more on the longest constitution. It was indubitably a wonderful learning experience for the disputants and the pedagogues.

Two hours of heated debating session in the auditorium received unending applause from the audience.

The edge-of-the seat debate led to a nail-biting finish, but the tepid atmosphere of the auditorium was not conductive enough to bear the extremely intense heat of the debate, and eventually exploded in the end when Sandra Pratap (grade 9) and Lianna (grade 8) were declared the best debaters for the motion and against the motion respectively.

Consolation prizes were also given to the second and the third positions. The debate was adjudged by Mrs. Meenakshi Nayyar, Head of the Department of Social Science, Mrs. Jaemi Byju, Head of the Department of English and Mr. Melvin Kuriakose (Department of English). Mr. Nagarajan (Department of Social Science) was the coordinator of the event.

The celebration ended with informative speeches by the judges on the constitution of India, signifying the importance of the longest constitution in the largest democracy in the world and the features of good and powerful debates. IES is in immense praise of such initiatives taken up by the CBSE which help not just various departments to collaborate in the learning process, but also in the holistic development of the students.
