The huge audience gathered at Kannur Maholsavam, the 11th anniversary celebration by Friends of Kannur Kuwait Expat’s Association (FOKE), witnessed a different and unique Drama – Kadangot Makkam. The effect was such that it would rather be mentioned as a 3D light and sound show. Kadangot Makkam is the first drama in Kuwait which was performed on a 24 meters long stage with three different platforms consisting of totally different sets side by side giving a three dimensional view. The myth behind the origin of Kadangot Makkam Theyyam was portrayed through the powerful acting of the talented artists with the support of light and sound effects. The direction of the drama was commendable where the director managed to conquer the emotions of the viewers as the artists on the stage gave life to the characters of Kadangot Tharavadu of Payyannur, Kerala. The viewers of the drama were filled with devotion and were taken back to their homeland finally when the Kadangot Makkam Theyyam appeared on the stage. It was equally enjoyed by all category of people gathered around. While it was a devotional and nostalgic treat for the elder crowd whose younger days were centered around traditions related to Theyyam, it was totally a new experience for the new generation who are brought up here away from the traditions of North Kerala. The little eyes filled with surprises says it all.
