Nair Service Society (NSS) celebrated 15th Onam “Shravanapumpulari 2016”

Nair Service Society (NSS), Kuwait celebrated its 15th Onam celebration “SHRAVANAPUMPULARI 2016” in the traditional style on Friday, 14th of October, 2016 at the Carmel School, Khaitan.

As a part of its Onam 2016 Celebration, NSS, Kuwait hosted OnaSadya. Over 1600 people enjoyed the sumptuous feast with as many as 30 dishes spread out on the traditional plantain leaf. A well executed delicious feast was an excellent culmination of tradition, style and togetherness of Onam. Mr. Aranmula Gopalakrishnan Nair, renowned Master of Kitchen, who has the fame of serving food for more than 50,000 people in Aranmula festivals and his colleague Mr. Balachandran Narayanan were specially invited from Kerala to organize and to supervise this feast.

Members with their families, friends and well wishers along with many dignitaries and executives constituted the large assemblage of over 1700 people during this day.

Onam 2016 was inaugurated with traditional lighting of the ‘Bhadradeepam’ by the Chief Guest Indian Embassy First Secretary Mr. Krishnan Kumar Pahel and his wife. Mr. Prasad Padmanabhan, General Secretary, NSS Kuwait welcomed the audience and Mr. Madhu Vettiyar, Vice President presided over the meeting. Vanitha Samajam Convener Mrs. Deepa Pillai and Sanskriti President Mr. Haridas delivered felicitation speeches. Mr. Sreekumar V Pillai, Treasurer proposed vote of thanks.

The daylong cultural programs started by 9.30 am and ended by 6.30 pm which include various art forms from different areas. One of the major attractions was Kathakali where the makeup was supervised by Sri Margi Somadas, leading Kathakali artist from Kerala. Reception of King Mahabali was also done in its traditional style with chendamelam and pulikali. NSS Kuwait Program convener Mr. Hari V Pillai coordinated the functions.
