Hindi Poetry celebrated in a festive mood at 3rd Dinkar Poetry Competition

Competitive but festive atmosphere was evident whole day on Friday 14 October 2016 at The Indian Embassy Auditorium during 3rd Dinkar Poetry Awards, a Hindi Poetry Competition for students organized by Maurya Kala Parisar in association with Indian Embassy. While one category was competing on stage, teachers parents and students for other categories were practicing outside the hall. Once the winners were declared, some teachers and parents were debating finer points about the rules of the competition while students were mingling with friends enjoying a bite snacks. Speaking in Hindi during prize distribution, Sri Shubashis Goldar Deputy Chief of Mission Embassy of India Kuwait lauded the new initiative by the Embassy to felicitate one student from each of the Indian Schools in Kuwait for Academic Excellence in Hindi.



He also praised the efforts by Maurya Kala Parisar to hold Dinkar Poetry Awards. He told though the event was in the name of Rashtra Kavi Dinkar, he was informed poems of other great poets were read by students in the recitation category of the competitions. He was specially pleased to observe that so many students participated in Self Written Poetry category.



Organizers reported that they had received 143 entries, which had to be screened to accept only 93 entries total in 3 categories. However, they were overwhelmed by some of the schools sending additional students at the venue. But not to disappoint students, a screening was done before the start of the competition to select and accommodate some additional contestants. Parents and teachers praised the conduct of the event which required a lot of coordination to register students, conduct the competition and tabulate results from scores by three judges for each category in a tight schedule without errors.



The event which was part of Hindi Diwas efforts and to be held at 30th September has been rescheduled to Friday 14 October 2016. The day long event had a Dinkar Poetry Competition started by Maurya Kala Parisar in the name of Rashtra Kavi Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, felicitation by Embassy of one Hindi Achiever from each school based on their Academic Performance in Hindi. This was followed by a Mushaira / Kavi Sammelan by poets from Kuwait.



Amatulla Tapiya of SIMS received the 1st Prize in Self Written Poetry Category A which is considered the most difficult category. Mohammad Mehdi of Indian Central School and Hadiya Khan of SIMS received 2nd and 3rd Prize respectively in Category A.



In the recitation category for Class VI to VIII (Category B) Batul Rokadiya of SIMS, Sanskar Mishra of Indian Community School Jr. and Iqra Qureshi of Integrated Indian School received 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. In recitation category for Class IX to XI Category C Karniya of Integrated Indian School, Ummal of Indian Learners Own Academy and Ayisha Wafiath of ICSK Khaitan received 1st, 2nd & 3rd Prizes.

The competition was judged by illustrious litterateur Umesh Sharma, Nasim Zahid, Ibrahim Sang-e-Raja, Dr.Navneet Gandhi, Aamir Diwan, Kamal Ansari, Qamar Minto, Saeed Nazar, and Uday Prakash. Evaluation criteria included finer points of poetry writing and recitation such as sound, expression, intonation, substance, imagination etc.

Mamuna Ali Choglay and Shabih Ahmad joined the above poets in a wholesome and much appreciated Mushaira anchored by Afroz Alam, which was closing event of the day.



The whole event required a sustained and patient months of effort by MKP organizing committee ably led by Abhay Kashyap. The members who did the background work included Afroz Alam, Afsar Khan, Sabir Ansari, Vivek Sinha, Sujeet Sinha, Nitin Prabhakar, Zafar Siddiqi, Nivedita Sinha, Uday Prakash, Sujata Kashyap, Shabih Ahmad, Neeraj Ranjan, Nihal ahmad and several others.



The MKP President in his address thanked the Ambassador HE Shri Sunil Jain who supported the idea of organizing the event in the Indian Embassy Auditorium in collaboration with the Indian Embassy. The President also thanked Mr. Shubhashish Goldar who represented the ambassador in his absence, Mr. A. K. Shrivastava who facilitated the affairs from the embassy side, members of MKP, participating schools, their principals and teachers, and most importantly the children and their parents.



Maurya Kala Parisar (MKP) is an association of people connected to the Indian states of Bihar and Jharkhand in Kuwait active in promoting culture of the region through programs of interest for Indian Community in Kuwait. Formed in the year 1995 the association is registered with Indian Embassy in Kuwait. Its recent activities include innovative and hugely popular events like Ethnic Food Festival, Dinkar Poetry Awards, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Debate (Mind Spark). The headline event of the association is Maurya Manch a cultural program presented by its members.
