A Befitting Tribute to Gandhiji at IES

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (IES) paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, by celebrating his birth anniversary in the most befitting way, on October 06, in the school premises. The programme was graced by the auspicious presence of Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan, (Retd. Senior Scientist, CSIR, Govt. of India). The other notable personages present were the Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Middle East, Mr. N. K. Ramachandran Menon, the Principal of IES, Mr. T. Premkumar, the Vice Principals Mrs. Lalitha Premkumar and Mr. Suresh V Balakrishnan, HoDs and the teachers.

Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan was welcomed by Mrs. Meenakshi Nayyar, the HoD of Social Science. Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan, then performed the lighting of the lamp in the presence of the chairman, the principal, the vice principals and the teachers.

Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan, in his address, spoke about the relevance of the teachings of Gandhiji in the present century. He enlightened the students and teachers on the values and principles of Gandhiji which made Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the ‘Mahatma’. He urged the listeners to lead a simple life, a mantra practised by Gandhiji. He voiced out the importance of value education and parental care in the life of children.

The dignitaries walked through the corridors of the main and the new blocks of the school, and relished the journey through the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his ideologies, neatly displayed on the softboards and the class bulletin boards. As part of the celebration, portraits of the ‘Mahatma’, arranged in the most traditional way, adorned with lamps and flowers, were placed in all the corridors of the school. Gandhiji's favourite bhajans were played through the public address system.

Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan eulogized the efforts of the school, and expressed his delight and pride in being a part of such a celebration. He was also in awe of Bhavans for reaching out to the society, with its value based curriculum. Mrs. Aswathy and Mr. Tilak (Dept. of Social Science) were the coordinators of the programme.
