IES Celebrates Indian Independence Day Gloriously

Indian Educational School (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan), Kuwait celebrated the 70th Independence Day of India in the most befitting way on August 15, 2016 on the school premises. Under the aegis of the Department of Physical Education, the celebration was the first of its kind among the fraternity of Indian Schools in Kuwait.
The historic event unfurled with the hoisting of the pride of India, the tricolour, Tiranga by the Principal, Mr. T Premkumar amidst thunderous applause followed by an enthusiastic Jai Hind delivered by the students and the staff members. Attired in tricolour, a group of vibrant teachers sang the Indian national anthem.
Reading excerpts from the message delivered by the President of India, the Principal extolled the school’s maiden attempt to celebrate such an eventful day in its historical saga of excellence. He also urged the student community to pay homage to the thirty-five thousand soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the other Indians to live in peace and prosperity. He further enlightened the spectators on the history of the Indian flag and underscored the contribution of its designer, Sri Pingali Venkayya Garu, a true Gandhian who lived in poverty his entire life and breathed his last in a hut in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. Principal, Mr. T Premkumar also congratulated the ace swimmer, Aaron Mathew Sherry of Grade X, who took part in a swimming competition held in Germany and won a gold medal and 2 silver medals and made his alma mater extremely proud of his incredible achievement. The Principal also wished him all success in the forthcoming CBSE national swimming meet.
Mrs. Meenakshi Nayyar, the HoD of Social Science, delivered the Independence Day speech. She urged the student community to uphold the thought of the day, ‘Ask not what the country has done for you, ask what you have done for the country.’ She implored the students to uphold the fundamental rights and enjoy the freedom gained for us but to give back to the fantabulous country the best they can as the citizens of tomorrow.
The patriotic songs rendered by the teachers’ choir sensitized the patriotic zeal in the students and the teachers. The IES environs reverberated with the delightful and nostalgic tunes of vande mataram, Sare Jahaan Se Acha Hindustan Hamara, Hum Honge Kaamyaab and so on and so forth.
Inspired by the relevance of the day, as part of the initiative taken by the CBSE, the students of IES would prepare greeting cards for the daring soldiers of the country, who are always on alert and vigilance to safeguard our motherland. Chairman of Bhavans Middle East, Mr. N.K Ramachandran Menon said that the school would take the initiative to send it across the soldiers, as a mark of respect and great affection, for safeguarding the lives of crores of Indians. The programme which lasted for nearly an hour left indelible imprints in the minds of the students and the teachers. Savoring the sweets and exchanging warm greetings, the programme was solemnly wound up.
