BKS-GCC Junior Open Badminton Tournament 2016

IBAK Coaching team of 20 junior players participated in the GCC Open Junior badminton tournament from 2nd to 4th June 2016 at BKS Diamond Jubilee Hall organised by the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam in association with the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation.

Boys & Girls Singles & Doubles events were held in Under 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19 age categories.

Total 211 Players resident in GCC countries like Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and UAE drawn across various nationalities, participated in the competition. There were 435 entries in all groups as each player was allowed to play in three events maximum.

IBAK team performed well and won 9 cups (2 Winners and 7 Runners up) in various categories as shown in the chart below and total 12 IBAK players reached up to semi-finals as shown in the chart.

The GCC Junior championship has been held for many years and IBAK has been sending team entries for the last three years. The performance of the current juniors in the face of stiff competition from many talented players across the Gulf countries is a tribute to the efforts of the INDIAN BADMINTON ASSOCIATION-KUWAIT ( IBAK ) which is patronized by the KUWAIT BADMINTON FEDERATION ( KBF ). Bringing laurels to the country of Kuwait is a matter of honour and pride for IBAK. the coaching modules conducted by IBAK so far has yielded good results and the recent performance by the IBAK juniors in Bahrain is only proof of the dedicated and professional coaching program undertaken by the association.

The coaching team led by its director, Dr. Manimara Chozhan, Asst. Director, Sreekumar Gopinathan, Resident Coach Shyam Sadhwani, Coaching Secretary, Ramesh Chandra and the team members, Mohammed Sirajudeen, Prasad KT, Srinivas Sreedhara, Ajay Kumar Vasudevan have worked tirelessly and their predecessors, Mr. Sunil Moorkanat, Mr. Noor Kalamatta, etc. also have to be commended for their efforts. Special mention to Coach Diwakar Chandramouli who has handled a majority of IBAK’s coaching modules is necessary. Previous overseas coaches include, Ilayaraja Kalyanasundaram, Maggeswar P, Sivaramakrishnan, and Abraham Varghese.
