Nine people died in Farwaniya fire

At least nine members of a Pakistani family died and 12 others were injured in a fire that broke out at a house in Farwaniya on Thursday.

Six of the deaths occurred at the fire site and three others died while being transferred to hospitals, while 12 injured people were transferred to intensive care units in Farwaniya and Al-Sabah hospitals including two firemen taken to Mubarak Al-Kabeer hospital, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Medical Services at Ministry of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi told News Agency.

Acting Director of KFSD Maj. Gen. Khalid Al-Mekrad said that four fire departments took part in putting the fire out, adding that among the injured were firefighters as well.

Al-Mekrad expressed regret over the incident, noting that these prefabricated buildings lack basic security and safety precautions and have some major violations.
