MOI drafts bill to stiffen traffic violation penalties

Ministry of Interior prepared a bill on amending some provisions of decree law number 67/1976 pertaining to traffic violation penalties. The amendments are made in view of giving strict penalties in order to limit traffic accidents.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khalid Al- Sabah stressed that 90 per cent of fatal traffic accidents were the result of lack of attention while driving. Al-Khalid also provided statistics about the verdicts issued on traffic-related cases noting that the total number was 552,375 in the past 12 years with the highest number of 106,474 verdicts issued in 2010.
