Chairperson of Kuwaiti Foodstuff Manufacturers and Importers Association Abdullah Al-Buaijan has warned about the hike in prices of foodstuffs during Ramadan due to delay in the release of test results for thousands of imported food items, local daily Kuwait Times warned citing Al-Rai Arabic newspaper.

Newspaper, quoting Al-Buaijan reported that several officials of cooperative societies indicated that the delay led to inadequate supply of some items and increase in prices of others. The increase in prices of some commodities is around 20 to 30 percent, daily added.

Citing an example, daily reported that the apricot that cost 350 fils in 2003 and rose to 900 fils in 2014 while the current price is KD1.350 with the possibility of increasing to KD1.500. The price of rice has increased by five percent since the companies stopped receiving subsidy.
