Gavels clubs organize Public Speaking Contest for Students

Monday, May 18, 2015

Young orators from eight Gavel Clubs will lock horns to compete for the best speakers in Kuwait from three different categories at the Annual Inter Gavel Club Contest (IGCC) that will be held on May 22nd at the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s School in Jleeb from 4.30 to 8.30 pm.

Gavel club is an affiliate of Toastmasters International, a world-wide movement dedicated towards strengthening members’ communication and leadership skills. Through Gavel Clubs, Gavelliers build their communication and leadership skills so they may become tomorrow’s leaders in business and social milieu.

Gavel club is for young children who are below 18 and above 9 year. In many ways, Gavel clubs operate in the same way as any ordinary Toastmasters club around the globe. The Gavelliers hold same leadership positions, practice the same communication skills from Communication and Leadership tracks and follow the same club meeting protocols. Gavel club members are not, however, referred as Toastmasters; they are called “Gavelliers.”

Presently there are seven Gavels clubs in Kuwait mentored by Toastmasters and some supported by local schools. These include Brainiax Gavel Club and Mind Freaks Gavel club that meet in Rumaithiya and mentored by Anil Lobo; Toppers Gavel Club, Clusters Gavel Club, Noble Gavel Club and Teentalkers Gavel club that meet in Mangaf and mentored by Kannan Ravi, Shenoy and Ganeshan, Speech Maniacs mentored by Surya Prakash; and the Limelighters Gavel Club that meets at Bhavan’s School, Jleeb and mentored by Suresh V. Gavel clubs provide Toastmasters with an excellent opportunity for community service.

The IGCC event will showcase the best Gavel speakers from each of these clubs who will contest for the top spots in the following categories: Table Topics, Humorous Speech and International Speech.

The mega event will be a treat to watch when the Gaveliers exhibit their oratory skills that they have developed in their respective Gavel Clubs. Should you wish to enroll your child to acquire communication and leadership skills, you may contact one of these mentors: Anil Lobo on 9928-3020, Kanan Ravi on 9789-2835 or Suresh on 6034-4211.
