MoI eyes community role to ensure traffic safety

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said that the Interior Ministry is working around the clock to improve traffic safety with the civil society.

"Promotion of traffic safety is a top priority for the Ministry of Interior," Sheikh Mohammad said in the inaugural speech at an international conference for traffic safety, organized by the Kuwait Society for Traffic Safety.

He pointed out that the Ministry -- with the help of media outlets, non-government organizations and national committees -- carry out awareness campaigns to educate people about the traffic safety principles and respect of traffic rules.

The Ministry also draws upon traffic researches and studies and the stories of success in any part of the world. It uses the state-of-the-art technology to upgrade traffic system, said Sheikh Mohammad.

Moreover, the Ministry has developed an ambitious traffic and roads strategy and is regularly review traffic-related legislations to demand amendments that could boost traffic safety in the country, he said.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammad said the Interior Ministry greatly cooperates with the Ministry of Public Works to accelerate the execution of the projects of the state development plan of 2014-2019.
