Monday, April 27, 2015

Books are the treasure trove of knowledge. This dictum came true when the Indian Community School Kuwait, Khaitan celebrated ‘World Book Day’ on 23rd April, 2015. While the world grumbles that reading is on its death bed due to the severe attack of social media and gadgets, the young learners at ICSK Khaitan organised various activities on ‘World Book Day’ to promote reading.

Among others, a fancy dress competition gave life to famous literary characters. Characters like Cinderella, Sherlock Holmes, Hardy Boys, Little Women and many more came to life. It was a phenomenal day for ICSK Khaitan students as they journeyed through different worlds with these legendary characters from the world of fiction.

Through various activities, the students of ICSK Khaitan provided glimpses into the invigorating lives of famous authors like Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Enid Blyton, J.K.Rowling and many more who have added extensive chapters to English literature through their creativity and imagination.

The Principal Mr. K.G.Shirsath addressed the gathering and, in his inspiring speech, emphasized the glory of reading. He reiterated that books can become our best friends in this hectic world where everyone lives in isolated compartments. He appreciated the hard work of the school librarian Mrs. Shaheen Khan in organizing the World Book Day at ICSK Khaitan. Such events will surely motivate many children to take up the highly fruitful hobby of reading.
