Govt Engineering College Thrissur Alumni Association held Silver Jubilee celebration 'Spectrum'

Government Engineering College, Thrissur, Alumni Association, Kuwait Chapter, (TECAL KUWAIT) celebrated its Silver Jubilee anniversary under the name ‘SPECTRUM’ at Al Hashemi hall in Radisson Blu Hotel, Kuwait on Friday 20th of March, 2015. It included a social outreach program targeting high school students of academic excellence from all Indian schools in Kuwait and children from TEC AL KUWAIT.

‘SPECTRUM’ was inaugurated by the Ambassador of India to Kuwait, His Excellency Sunil K. Jain. In his inaugural address Ambassador Jain lauded the contributions by Indian engineers to the State of Kuwait and the appreciation received for their hard work by host country. Mr. Mathew Philip the event manager for SPECTRUM welcomed the dignitaries, students, faculty parents and guests. He gave an overview of Thrissur, the place where the college is located, its’ cultural heritage and historical importance. General Convener of Kuwait Engineers’ forum Mr. Santhosh Kumar felicitated the alumni for their novel initiative. Mr. Joshy Sebastian, Chairman of TECAL KUWAIT gave the presidential address projecting the program events and the objective behind the initiative.

This was followed by releasing of the souvenir by the ambassador to the principal of Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur.

The key note address was delivered by Prof. Krishnakumar, Principal Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur, on ‘A Profession in Engineering’ where importance of Mathematics, skills required for each particular branch and job challenges were discussed. The guest of honor Dr. Ali Yahia Bumajdad, Dean, Dept. of Chemistry, Kuwait University gave a talk on online electron microscope under the title “A picture is worth more than a thousand words” and how researchers, teachers and students could benefit from the online electron microscope from the comfort of their offices or homes. Mr. V.S.K. Shenoy, Engineer at KNPC and a trainer by profession delivered an interactive session on “From Mediocrity to Excellence”. Each of the three lectures was followed by a question-answer session.

The high school students of academic excellence from the Indian Schools in Kuwait who attended the session were honored with certificates by the dignitaries.

The session ended with guest speakers being presented with mementoes, and certificates. Mr. Kannan Ravi was honored for his support towards TECAL KUWAIT activities. Event Coordinator Mr. N.S. Sunil in his vote of thanks speech thanked the dignitaries for their spontaneous acceptance to the program, principals and students of Indian schools in Kuwait for their participation and all others who contributed to make the program a success.

The evening session was exclusively for members of the TEC AL KUWAIT chapter under the name ‘TEC-Nite’. Mr. Santosh Joseph, the secretary of TEC AL KUWAIT gave the welcome address. During the event senior members of the chapter were honored with ‘ponnadas’ by alma mater’s Principal Prof. T. Krishnakumar. Felicitations during this event were given by Principal Prof. T. Krishnakumar, Mr. Suresh Krishnan, Ex-General Convenor of Kuwait Engineers Forum and Mr. Anil Kumar, GC designate of KEF. A musical orchestra by Preethi Warrier and team from ‘ELENZA Group’ entertained the audience. Mr. Jacob Paret and Miss Reshma Jayakumar were the master of the ceremony. Mr. Sunil N.S .Joint secretary TECAL KUWAIT delivered the vote of thanks.
