Kuwait Indian Tennis Cricket Association (KITCA), an association consisting of Kuwait’s aspiring heavy tennis ball cricket playing teams was formally announced at an event held at the Salmiya Indian Model School (SIMS) on 16th February 2015, in the presence of numerous teams’ representatives invited for the event.

Speaking at the event, KITCA’s President Mr. Sharan Noronha and General Secretary Mr. Don Dsouza welcomed the attendees and introduced the KITCA managing committee and various aspects of the association to the teams’ representatives present at the event.

KITCA president further stressed that as tennis ball cricket is fast gaining popularity in Kuwait and as more and more teams are emerging on a frequent basis as well as with a lot of tournaments being conducted by various teams on a regular basis; KITCA, an association in process of being registered with the Indian Embassy, was formed with the aim of gathering interested teams under one umbrella, to streamline the tournament process and develop/promote the game further through conducting various tennis ball cricket tournaments.

Speaking about some of the aspects of KITCA, Mr. Noronha stated that KITCA plans to conduct a minimum of three tournaments during the year. Financial proceeds of tournaments organized by KITCA will be diverted to needy schools and institutions in rural India for purchase of sports related equipment etc. All tournaments conducted by KITCA will be played on concrete pitches with fast outfields and two such venues (Sulaibikhat and Khaitan), have been chosen for the same. Teams affiliated with KITCA will also have access to these facilities for organizing their individual tournaments depending on availability and well planned time schedules. Interested teams can register themselves with KITCA along with their players thereby avoiding inter-exchange of players within teams. Each affiliated team & its players will be allotted a unique identification number (UID) to avoid any discrepancies.

At the event, General Secretary Mr. Don Dsouza also formally announced the ‘EMERGING TEAMS CUP - 2015’ KITCA’s own upcoming first major tournament to be played during the month of March 2015. This month long tournament is open to the 16-teams that have already pledged their support and confirmed their willingness to register their teams under KITCA.

The tournament will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis with cash awards & trophies will be handed out to Title Winners, Runner’s Up, 2nd Runners Up and 3rd Place in addition to individual Man-of-the-Match plus Player of the Tournament awards.

The event was concluded with a note of thanks and the registration forms/rules of the tournament being distributed to those present.
