Medium is not a barrier to show your talents, proves Sherly Biju

Her works speak louder than words, but then Mrs Sherly Biju, a dedicated artist, does make her point forcefully once she starts speaking. “Medium is not a barrier for your creations,” Sherly, who creates art works on any medium including water colour, oil paint, fabric painting, Mural & Tanjore paintings, knife painting, pencil sketching etc said.
Sherly Biju took the liking to art and dance in her childhood itself. It took her many years to listen to her creative soul, and become an artist. She always had an appreciation for art, but didn’t think she would ever become an artist. She used to draw for her friends for their projects during her college days. All her friends seeing her interest and talent in drawing and painting suggested her to take up art as profession. Hails from Chengannur, Kerala , after completing her Bachelor of Economics degree from Assumption College Changanacherry, she pursued diploma in Fine Arts from Chithrasala School of Painting under Late Chunakkara K R Rajan. She also learnt Mural & Tanjore paintings from Flora Institute of Arts & Crafts, Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala under Mr George.
Recently the exhibition of her paintings held at Indian Embassy in Kuwait during the ‘Amazing Dances of India’ program attracted large crowd. Many of her painting which depicts the Indian culture were on display at Indian Embassy.
It’s been 20 years now in Kuwait and she found this country an ideal place to unearth her artistic talents. She has made portraits of many popular personalities. Portrait of Kerala Chief Minister Mr Oommen Chandy was well appreciated by Mr Chandy when she presented it to him in Kuwait during his visit earlier. In various occasions Mrs Sherly presented wonderful oil Paintings to Mr Sasi Tharoor MP, Mr Anto Antony MP and former Ambassador of India to Kuwait Mr Ajay Malhotra. She also donated Painting of Saint Basil to St. Basil Indian Orthodox Church during their Harvest Festival.
The happiness I see in my students whenever they win any prize in drawing competition is the real reward for my works, Sherly said. Her students are a regular winner in various painting competitions held in Kuwait. Anyone who can hold the pencil with minimum three fingers can master the art of drawing, Sherly said.
Sherly is an active member of Progressive Art Realization Troop of Kuwait (PART) and has participated in couple of exhibitions and workshops in association with PART. Since 4 years she is working as an arts teacher in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Abassiya, Kuwait and conducts training for Kids and Ladies on different forms of Art like Oil Painting, Water Colour painting, Mural Painting etc
