Foreign liquor worth KD1 million confiscated

Customs officers at Shuwaikh Port confiscated 14,800 bottles of ‘Red Label’ whisky and vodka worth KD1 million from a consignment that arrived at the port from Singapore. A Syrian expatriate who was waiting at the port for receiving the cargo was arrested.

The contraband believed to be used for Christmas and New Year celebrations was hidden inside a consignment of home appliances that arrived from Singapore. It’s reported that a Syrian expatriate who was waiting to receive the cargo was arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution for investigations. A case was registered and investigations are ongoing to identify the people behind the smuggling of such a large quantity of liquor into the country.
