Passenger coming to Kuwait arrested in Chennai with 1 crore worth heroin

Heroin worth about Rs one crore in the international market has been seized from a Kuwait-bound passenger at the Chennai international airport yesterday.

This is the second heroin haul in less than three months from Kuwait bound passenger from Chennai. According to reports in Indian media the heroin smuggling ring is operating out of Kuwait.

The intensified move began with the arrest of Anandam Gundluru (37) at the Chennai airport, as he attempted to fly out of the country with 1.377 kg of heroin and 10 gm of methamphetamine.

“This is the second largest haul that we have had and we are looking to pursue the gang behind this. They are based in Kuwait and are notorious for getting drugs smuggled from Andhra, so we are investigating them,” said Prem Anand Sinha, Zonal Director of the NCB’s Chennai Zonal Unit.
