Pathanamthitta District Association, Kuwait Launches “Hope” Scholarship Scheme

Pathanathitta District Association (PDA), has launched a School Students Scholarship Scheme under the name “HOPE” (Helping Hands of Pathanamthitta Expatriates) for the benefit of children of financially weak families in Pathanamthitta District as an extension of it’s humanitarian services. The HOPE Scheme was inaugurated at Pathanamthitta Kuzhikkala CMS Higher Secondary School on 16 June 2014 by the honourable Deputy Speaker of Rajya Sabha, Shri. P.J. Kurian in the presence of representatives of local Panchayats, public personalities, and prominent leaders of all political parties.


The inauguration function was presided over by PDA Liaison Officer in Pathanamthitta, Mr. Abraham Daniel representing the Association in the absence of the President. Association’s General Convener Mr. Benny Pathanamthitta, Advisory Board Chairman Mr. Jayakumar and ex-General Secretary and Association’s Pathanamthitta Unit in-charge Mr. Shaji Madathilethu were present at the function. The School Manager, Rev. Dr. Sabu Cherian, Principal, Mrs. Jessy T.G., and leaders of Political Parties and people representatives, which included DCC President, Mr, P. Mohanraj, CPI (M) Acting District Secretary Mr. A. Padmakumar, BJP Kerala State General Secretary, Mr. A.G. Unnikrishnan, Kerala Congress District President, Mr. Jerry Easow Oommen, Elanthoor Block Panchayat President Mrs. Eliyamma Yohannan, Mallappuzhassery Panchayat President, Mrs. Mercy Samuel, Ward Member Mrs. Mariamma Philip, and P.T.A. President Mr. Shaji George, rendered felicitation speeches.

HOPE Scholarship Scheme aims to find financially weak students from selected Schools in Pathanamthitta District, who excel in studies, arts and sports and to provide financial support for them in meeting their expenses for education and improving their capabilities in arts or sports, whichever field they excel. The “HOPE” scheme will be implemented in the selected Schools in the various areas of Pathanamthitta District every year at the beginning of academic year. By implementing this Scheme, Pathanamthitta District Association intends to find a solution on a long term basis to the District’s backwardness in education, arts and sports. The students from 1st standard to 12th standard of the aided/government Schools in Pathanamthitta District will be eligible for this scheme. PDA intends to extend the HOPE Scheme which was begun in Kuzhikkala CMS Higher Secondray School this year to more Schools in Pathanamthitta District in the coming years.
