Saturday, June 14, 2014

Don Bosco Oratory Hockey continues where they left off after winning the 1st Rink Hockey 4 a side tournament played on rubber court for the first time. In the First edition of the open 7 A side Field Hockey tournament held at the Kuwait University ground, was a fantastic start for Don Bosco Oratory Kuwait by winning the first tournament on clay surface, played for the first time.

It was Feroz, who gave DBO the remarkable start they needed and ensured the team made the headlines. Kings Hockey team consists of young and talented national Pakistani lads who just could not keep up with the space with the stunning passes and stick work from Don Bosco lads.

Don Bosco Oratory who were outstanding throughout the tournament winning most of their games gave DBO the courage and confidence with KOC Green in the Semis and Kings Hockey in the Finals. Not to mention Professor Abdulreham from KOC Blue who has been an instrument in organizing the tournament and supporting Hockey in Kuwait.

Head coach Christopher Fernandes said it was pleasing to see our young lads are keeping the winning spree rolling, but there is still a long way to go. We are still in the process of building our team and the success is the mixture of youth and old experience players has worked fine. It is also right to mention the efforts put in by our players are the end results what you see. “It was a little bit scrappy, both teams didn’t handle the hard ground very well", said Christopher. "They applied a lot of pressure, it was for us to hold our nerve and to get the ball out on to the opponent’s half for our forwards to do finishing. We need a ground where the lads can practice and work on our weaknesses before the next tournament. “It was good for all our young lads to get the goals and that they belong at this level.”

This is India’s national sports and it’s the duty of Indian Central Board along with the Indian schools here in Kuwait to ensure Field Hockey is promoted by adding Hockey to the cluster. The Indian Hockey teams here in Kuwait are willing to sponsor and support this.
