Kuwait recorded an average of 14 car thefts a day last year, according to official figures released by the Interior Ministry.

According to local media report, 5,060 thefts were reported in 2013, including 3,186 filed as felonies and 1,874 as misdemeanors. The majority of these cases were reported by motorists who lost their cars to unidentified thieves.

According to report, stolen cars are often found burnt in remote locations or dismantled for parts that are sold to garages around Kuwait - especially of luxury vehicles. Stolen cars are sometimes used by criminals to commit
crimes such as muggings and armed robberies, the source warned. Some steal cars simply for ‘drifting’ and using them to perform dangerous stunts before abandoning them in the desert.
