Kerala Sunni Muslim Council has conducted Islamic classes about the subject “significance of month of Shaaban” on 29th June at Fahaheel. Kutty Faizi welcomed the guests and the function was presided by Abdul Salam Moulavi, the president of KKSMC.

The visiting Islamic Scholar from Kerala’s C.H. Hydrose Musaliyar Memorial Arabic College, was the main speaker of the event. Faizi said in his speech about the month of Sha’ban is the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The fifteenth night of this month is known as Laylatul Bara’ah or Laylatun Nisfe min Sha’ban in the Arab world. In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Afghanistan, etc., it is known as Shab-e-barat. it is fully established through a large number of Ahadith that the Holy Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) has emphasized on the merits of fasting in Shabaan, and particularly in the first half of the month. The 15th day of Shabaan, being the last day of the first half, is included in the preferable days for fasting.

Some people also say that in the 2nd year of Hijrah, the direction of Qiblah was changed from Jerusalem to Ka’bah (Makkah) on the 15th day of Sha’ban.
Another Islamic scholar Sayyid Ghalib Thangal said that Imam al-Mundhiri (died in 656 A. H.) in his famous book Al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib (vol. 2, pp. 116-120) has reported fourteen Ahadiths on the subject of this night. As per the points’ summarization from those Ahadith, one can understand that : The month of Sha’ban is a great month. In this month Allah takes the account of His creation. Because this month occurs between two other important months, viz. Rajab and Ramadan, many people do not pay enough attention to it. The Prophet -peace be upon him- loved to fast during this month. He used to fast most of the month of Sha’ban.

KKSMC’s monthly ‘Halqa Zikqr” also were convened under the guidance of Shamsuddin Moulavi, the Imam and the Scholar at Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs. The function was held at the residence of Nazeer Khan, the vice president of KKSMC. Abdul Salam Moulavi and the attended scholars asked to prepare and purify themselves for the Holy month of Ramazan, and live upto the expectation of ” the High rewarding month for Muslims” which will be possibly on 20th of this month. The function was ended from DUAA by Sayyid Ghalib Thangal. Spacious Lunch was also served for the attendees. ou
