The basic necessities of women have long been denied in various societies. This is the end result of the preconceptions in the minds of many people related to the idea of subordination of women. Women’s human rights like right to education, equal wages, equality and respect have not been granted in different places around the world. Being a girl I strongly condemn the idea of women being inferior to men.
In spite of the development in the past the societies still do no value the health of women. It is considered unimportant even during adolescence and old age. Only three out of hundred and thirty countries registered in the UN have been successful in achieving gender parity in terms of primary education. The government cabinets are largely male dominated which leaves women as disadvantaged groups. The security of women in general is in extreme peril. Violence against women is such an act which goes against the human right. It stands between women and development and leaves a lifetime scar on their lives.
Improving the economic, social and political life of women is a daunting task but we can achieve this goal by undertaking a few crucial steps. The fundamental step is increasing the literacy rate among women and girls. We should encourage them to acquire education by giving special rewards to those who complete primary education. The state should pay attention to the working conditions of women and try improving them by making them aware of a worker’s right. This will take care of their economic status in the society. Further the male patriarchal society needs reforms that can ware off the superstitions dealing with women. When women have gained their self confidence we should help them voice their ideas by giving them reservations in the parliament.
All of us have come across various articles, speeches and posters regarding improving the condition of women but we haven’t taken the trouble to even think about it twice. People have always underestimated the amount of change they can bring in the society as an individual. What we can do is have a better perspective about looking at women and try to persuade the others to do the same. This small step can make a bigger difference than that we have ever imagined because a miles journey starts with a single step.
