Stay well hydrated during Ramadan

Ramadan is a very blessed month for the Muslim’s. Muslims fast throughout the month of Ramadan from before sunrise till sunset. The days of Ramadan in Kuwait are very long (16 hrs) and hectic due to the intensive heat in Kuwait. Hence it’s very important to keep ourselves well hydrated in the non-fasting period of the day. Some good options for good drinks are:-

i)Roohafza MilkShake

Roohafza milkshake is a very cool and refreshing drink during iftaar times.

Makes 4 cups

Ingredients

Roohafza 4 tblsps

Milk 4 cups

Few ice cubes

Sugar to taste

Crushed nuts for garnish

Procedure:

Blend all the ingredients in the blender.

Add nuts for garnish. Serve cool.

ii)Ginger Lemonade:

Ginger lemonade is an excellent detoxifying drink for hot days of Ramadan:

Ingredients

5 cups water, divided

1 ¼ cups sugar

¼ cup grated peeled fresh ginger

1 ¼ cup fresh lemon juice (7 Large lemons)

Procedure:

Combine 1 cup water, sugar, and ginger in a saucepan; bring to a boil , and cook 1 minute or until sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; cool.

Strain the liquid and add water and juice to the mixture. Serve with ice and garnish with lemon if desired.

iii)Dates Shake

Simple, seasonal and sensational

Makes 2 glasses

Ingredients

½ cup thickly packed fresh dates, sliced.

1 cup chilled milk (usually skimmed milk)

1 cup vanilla ice cream

1 tsp chocolate syrup(optional)

Melted ice cream and chocolate syrup for garnish

Procedure:

Soften dates by popping it in the microwave on high for 10 secs.

Pour the milk into a blender, add dates and process to a smooth puree, then add ice cream and chocolate syrup, if using blend again. Garnish with chocolate syrup and ice cream.

These were some delicious drinks that can be enjoyed during iftaar in Ramadan’s. Such cool and refreshing drinks will not only keep us hydrated, but will also add in the required taste in every iftaar/futoor.
