Amazing Health Benefits of Ramadan

Although thousands of Muslims around the world fast during the holy month of Ramadan every year, many think that fasting for such a long time will affect their health tremendously. Here are some surprising benefits of fasting.

Although three dates are eaten at iftar to break the fast for spiritual reasons, they also have many health benefits. One of the most important aspects of fasting is getting the right amount of energy. So dates are one of the healthiest fruits because an average serving of dates contains 31 grams of carbohydrates. They also give us a lot of fibre which will aid and improve digestion throughout Ramadan.

Fasting has many positive effects on our mental wellbeing and spiritual focus, but the brain-boosting power of Ramadan is even more significant. A study carried out by the scientists in USA found that the mental focus achieved during Ramadan causes the body to produce more brain cells, thus improving the brain function.

Ramadan is the perfect time to get rid of all the bad habits because we will be fasting during the day. As we are prohibited from smoking while fasting, the body will slowly adapt to its absence and you will no longer be addicted to smoke. It is much easier to quit bad habits when you do so in a group and finding one in Ramadan is really easy.

We all know that weight loss is one of the physical changes taking place in the body but there are many more. A team of cardiologists in the UAE found that people fasting during Ramadan have a reduction of cholesterol in their blood. Low cholesterol reduces the risk of suffering from a heart disease, a heart attack, or a stroke. If we take a healthy diet after Ramadan we will be able to maintain this lowered cholesterol level.

By not eating throughout the day during Ramadan the metabolism in the body becomes more efficient and the amount of nutrients absorbed from the food increases. This will lead to health benefits all around the body, as various areas are able to better absorb and make use of the nutrients they need to function.

Hope you all enjoy Ramadan with your family and friends despite the current situation in Kuwait. Ramadan Kareem!!!
