IIK Independence Day

Independence

Vultures flew above my head,
Circling the bodies and the bloodshed.
I look down to my bloody hands,
To my swaying feet that could barely stand.
Murky darkness surrounding me,
I fell through a void of eternal sleep.

In my lovely dreams of glory,
I saw a golden garden of lilies.
I reached out to stroke a gilded one,
Instead feeling the coarse sand of the battlefield.

In an instant I came back to my senses,
Back to the bodies and the bloodshed.
But now my mind had an additional thought,
A lining of strength and determination devout.
With renewed vigor, I finally stood on my feet,
And turned my gaze towards the heavens.
And to my wonder, a pure white dove flew by,
Symbolizing the freedom and peace that waited for me
