It is yet another time to commemorate the triumphant entry to freedom on Aug 15th 2023 on the 76th Independence day. In 1947 at the stroke of midnight on Aug 15th the Indian Independence Bill came into act. This was a dream come true for those who witnessed that day and culmination of the actions for those people who sacrificed for this very event and were not there to see the same.

British colonization began in 1757 in the form of The British East India Company at the time of the Mughal Empire decline and the direct rule came into effect on 1858.
Then began the 89 years of British India under the Crown which came to end on that Midnight of Aug 15th 1947.Every year we celebrate to honour the selfless sacrifices of known and untold patriots who fought for the freedom. As the National Flag is hoisted, it is inevitable to realize the first it was hoisted on triumphant entry on midnight 76 years ago. Though it is officially 89 years including the time that The British East India Company was, being in charge it goes to nearly 200 years of British presence.

What actually happened on Midnight of Freedom? People rushed into streets now knowing they are free after a long time and danced in celebration. The first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave the famous speech “Tryst with Destiny”. The new day begins with sunrise, the Constituent assembly met at midnight to move into the country’s freedom. That time Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten who was in charge to oversee the procedures and process of the Indian Independence bill chose Aug 15th being the day Japan surrendered in World War 2. The British Empire was affected by the result of 2 World wars and tired with independence struggle leading to decision to finally bestow the desired moment for India as a country.

The triumphant entry into Midnight of Freedom has come a long way and it will reach the goals set from time to time. The unforgettable fact that stands out is that freedom struggle was mostly non-violent led by Mahatma Gandhi. In this new era, we look forward with hope and bury the past to celebrate this momentous day.
