Main Body
The economic growth of India during British Raj (1858 to 1947) was the main debate among historians, economists and politicians because of India's decline on the global GDP. Many arguments arised telling that the British rule was negative , there aim was to deindustrialise India and make there country rich and our country poorer. As we all know that India was one of the largest and best economies in the world. The British decided to open a large Indian market for British goods and restrict Indian textile from being sold there. India was served as both a supplier of raw goods to British manufacturers and a large captive market for British manufactured goods. The tax taken by the British was so burdensome , that some of them where forced to flee from their lands. Poverty was wide spread they were unable to meet their food , shelter and clothes. 70% of the population depends on agriculture employs but it could contribute only the 50% of GDP. India's economy was characterized by high birth and death rates due to the lack of health care facilities, awareness and all means of health care. Finally, it was time for the British to stop ruling our country and go back. Many leaders came up and many ideas and voices were raised, many movements were taken like Quit India movement , salt march etc. Many had sacrificed their life for the freedom of the up coming generation's in India. At last, INDIA our country was given independence from the British Empire after a long year's of hardwork , struggle and sacrifices.
