It is the untold duty of every citizen to know the history of the nation. If you have missed out on your opportunity to learn about the history of India, here is an article on Independence Day that would give you a fair idea of the journey for Indian Independence. India got it's independence in 1947 on the 15th of August. It was not an easy task. It took a lot of selfless effort on the part of great people like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subash Chandra Bose, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Lala Lajpat Rai, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, B. R. Ambedkar, etc. They had to make a lot of sacrifices to attain freedom from British rule because they loved the country and cared for the people.. It was Jawaharlal Nehru who declared India’s independence and swore in as the first Prime Minister of India.Independence Day is celebrated throughout India with grand ceremonies including raising the National Flag, speeches/skits on freedom fighters and various movements, traditional dances, competitions, singing the National Anthem and so on. It is a collection of various events, including the march past of the army and a showcase of the cultures, traditions and specialities of the different states of India. It is something that should not be missed. As an Indian citizen it is our responsibility to protect our country.
