The Independence Day reminds every Indian of the beginning of a new age of freedom, the start of a new life free from discrimination and slavery. After years of slavery and discrimination under the British Empire, India got its independence 1947 on the 15th of August.

Years of discrimination, racism led to the revolt of people, led by many freedom fighters eventually resulted in Indian independence in 1947. It was not an easy task. It took a lot of selfless effort on the part of great people like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subash Chandra Bose, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Lala Lajpat Rai, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, B. R. Ambedkar etc. They had to make a lot of sacrifices to attain freedom from British rule because they loved the country and cared for the people. They could not stand the sight of people being oppressed and tortured to work like slaves in their own land.
15th of August 1947 marked the end of British colonialism and the age of the democratic republic. The Indian Independence was passed by the British Parliament. The Indian Independence Act was passed in 1947. The act created two new independent dominions, India, and Pakistan. Pakistan was split into Pakistan and East Pakistan which is now Bangladesh.

After independence, the constitution of India provided seven fundamental rights for the people. They are the right to equality, the right to freedom, the right against exploitation, the right to freedom of religion, the cultural and educational rights, the right to property and the right to constitutional remedies.

Now we should be happy for all the sacrifices done by our ancestors for our freedom and benefits we get now. If we think about the pain and hardships our ancestors went through to get this freedom we experience today, is unimaginable. So, let’s appreciate the sacrifices of our ancestors
