Kuwait government urges expats with expired residencies to make use of amnesty

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour and Chairman of the Standing Committee to organize conditions of employment in the private sector, Mohammad Al-Kandari urged on Saturday expatriate labor in violation of the country's laws to take advantage of the Amiri grace period to leave the country without paying any fine incurred by irregularities.

Al-Kandari told Kuwait News Agency that the grace period offered by His Highness the Amir was not peculiar to him, indicating that it was limited and allows departure through all ports.

Al-Kandari, who met today with members of the committee, also urged sponsors of the violating labor to do their part in alerting the workers to take advantage of this grace period which began on March 1 and continues until the end of June.

He stressed the importance of the role of the General Union of Kuwait Employees in reminding the employers not to harbor any violating labor and the need to raise awareness on the importance of resorting to the Ministry of Interior's various centers to modify their situation.

For his part, Director of Ministry's Directorate of Immigration Major General Kamel Al-Awadhi revealed an awareness plan to be carried out by the Ministry for the violating labor including the distribution of leaflets and posters and ads in all languages.
