Power cuts continue as temperatures decrease

Friday, June 18, 2010

For the first time since last week, power consumption on Friday decreased to 9.082 megawatts reported Al Watan. Sources at the Ministry of Electricity and Water said that there were several reasons behind the decrease of power consumption including the decrease of temperature which reached 47 Celsius and high humidity witnessed by the country on Friday, as well as the successful plan developed by the ministry to face the crisis.

However, power cuts hit Jeleeb Al-Shoukh and Hasawy areas. Policemen in Jleeb Al-Shoukh Police Station had to use candles after the power cuts hit the area.

A security source said that policemen and inmates suffered because of high temperature, which reached 50 Celsius. He added that policemen used fans to cool down inmates. He added that the situation was even worse at night and policemen asked for back up in order to be ready for any emergencies.

For the second day in a row, citizens and expatriates living in Jeleeb Al-Shoukh and Hasawy faced continual power cuts. Large numbers of expat workers were seen sleeping in the streets waiting for the return of power. They complained that they did not receive any response from the emergency services. Residents in this area said that the ministry did not care about these areas because the majority of residents are expatriates.

perfumes house by house. His wife managed the house with mere 50 KD. So there are people out there in Kuwait who can no doubt do it.

Finally I would conclude every single situation can be tackled positively. Think Positive and be Positive.

Appreciate the time and patience you had to write such big comments. But sorry to tell that you have not understood the message that our fellow Indians, Maverick, Russell and enjoying Indian wants to convey. Regarding people loosing business, I don’t think it’s a big deal as I know that most of my South Indians brothers who own these businesses have made a lot of money by either selling goods at a higher cost or selling things which are expired. I know of the bakala below my house that was sell rotten ginger to the restaurant next door at almost quarter the price. Spoiled or whatever at the end of the day it is gonna be in someone’s dinner plate.

Climbing till the 8th floor, I don’t mind taking the stairs once in a while. In our busy lives where we hardly have any time for exercise, this is the time where we are getting a chance to be fit. During Invasion, we had to walk for days and stay in tents. Climbing stairs should not be a big deal if you compare the earlier.

Murtaza’s neighbor ate pizza. They understood the situation and acted accordingly. Nobody has a boring life earlier. But as soon as I landed in Abbasia, my life suddenly went on a standstill without my knowledge. No other sight other than students running with books for 4 different tuitions on a single day on weekdays and going for various religious activities on weekends. I am staying in my building for 11 years now and I have never seen my neighbor’s kids playing down. I can understand murtaza’s feelings when he must have seen his neighbor eat pizza.

I don’t understand why people in the forum have made it a big issue to go to the malls at night. I myself been to Salmiya during these power cuts and notices so many young people enjoying life even at 3 in the morning.

In regards to your comments for mellu labourer, I hope there are lots of people who can manage with the minimum earning they get. I know of my neighbor Abbas who had lost his job last year and was doing a temporary of selling perfumes

To hell with Maverick, ruselll and enjoying indian. I dnt think they understand the word "logic".

do they knw how many people lost buisness with these power cuts. Restauranters, bakalas, fish shops..all these ppl lost money coz thier goods got spoiled.People got stuck in lifts. women have to climb till 8th floor with thier kids.

when there is a power cut for a limited period den the point of goin out to a cafe /toruist spot is understandable..But what our dear fellow beings mentioned down is about the frequesnt power cuts in a day..to be exact for 2 hrs after evry 2 hrs. does these guys understand what it means?

mutuza's negihbour ate pizzza.or smeone went to kuwait tower..who is to blame if they had such a boring life ealrier. Here they are talking abt the immense heat and the troubles they facing due to power loss.

yes my brother, if its in india..we do complain.i come from b'lore city..we do have power cuts..but we do get responses from the electcity dept. Here the stroy was difftrnt..the authorities didnt reply or issue any statemnts until days after the ambassdor took the matter up.Please do weigh both situations carefully rather than furnishing illogical points like goin to cafe and mall that too at 2am and 4 am.!!!

i live in farwaniya. I got a call from my work buddy in jaleeb and asked me to come over urgently. His wife was in labour pain and the electrcty was down. we had to carry her down 6 floors. i hope the ladies commenting in this forum will atleast understand the seriousness of the situation.

i dont expect these people(maverick, russell, enjoing indian, murtuza, linny) apologies or help these people. But atleast stop hurting them and mind your own buisness.

A word to mellu labourer You survive in kuwait with 20 bucks and that too you enjoy. U send 20 KD to home thats 3500 rs. i really wud like to know how you manage these things. We shall ask the president to hounour you with padmashree.

take cre all of you ,god bless

I am a resident of Abbasiya living there from the time I was born. It’s sad plight to see this Power Cuts .But why is this happening only in Abbasiya.

My next door neighbour’s are 3 families in one flat, its really sad to see them having

Sleepless nights.I never saw their kids outside the house other than going for tuitions,

Now they are atleast playing.i actually thought all the kids in the building were doing M.B.B.S. My Wife’s friend next door had neva been to ne restaurant, she’s saying Pizza

Is awesome.I personally admire the comments of enjoyin Indians and Russell.they

Contribute to the upliftment of backward people in abbasiya.

People like Lee and Ramukanda have to open their eyes and widen their thoughts and take their Prado's to newer places.

Hey Mr Lee,

Phew.. did a lot of running around n made a lot of calls n finally got what you wanted.. Enjoying Indian's - Plate ### its " 123 - Kiss - My - Ass". i for 1 surely wanna see what you capable of doing :)

Pardon my language Mr. Lee but Get a life my good man... am sure u didn't get so personal abt the power cuts / shortages back home where ever it is.. i presume India rite?.. now did you? Kuwait is a luxury you have.. not cause Kuwait needs 'you' but cause 'you' need kuwait dont forget. how many years did u say u lived in kuwait?? oh ya you were born here rite?.. calculate n see if the no of yrs u have lived here is greater or the no of years Kuwait has faced such a power shortage before.

Mr.Enjoying Indian - Even though i may not totally support the way you probably came across with your statement, i guess you should know the audience at this Forum and conveyed your thoughts accordingly. I concur to your thoughts on a broader perspective, but you could have put it across in a bit more sober manner that's all.

anyways hope there will not be any more power cuts anywhere in Kuwait soon .. and also ppl learn to live life as humans and not as machine, be reasonable but in the bargain enjoy life too... "life is not a rehearsal.. live it well"

Have a gr8 day..

Jacob Joseph
Sunday, June 20, 2010
Did you ever hear anywhere there's 12 hrs power cut in a day in oil rich country like Kuwait???? Sometime feel shame the inhuman way certain sector of society is targeted in the name of power cuts .Residents and Power players take for granted for there own comfort and priorities to target expatriates in this inhumanly fashion.Imagine the record breaking heat this year above 50 deg and without electricity for 12 hours a day where families holding infant babies, children, elderly people put to take the pressure in the name of power cut.Its so dangerous that even lifes can be lost.I would request the authorities to put some light on the power cut issue and take action equally for all and not to target a certain section of the society.

Barbara
Sunday, June 20, 2010
Divide the full of Kuwait into sixty/seventy districts and cut off power for two hours only for each district in turn, that too after informing them two days in advance of the timings and areas of the power cut, so that all concerned can make necessary arrangements. Thereby the same district will have only a two hour cut once every five days and power consumption will be reduced.

Now it is impossible for the anyone to bear this heat. Old people, heart patients, small children cannot walk up stairs to the 8th and 9th floor. The power which is cut every two hours does not help in having a proper sleep at night or day. Many nurses reside in Abbassiya, so how do you expect them to do a proper job while on shift duty, the same way like all the others in their different fields of work. Due to no power, there is also water problem.

The government should think of all residents in the country, not only Kuwaitis and people staying in posh localities.

Malls, shopping centres and other shops should be closed from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and also closed earlier at night. Only specified pharmacies for each area should be open all night. Lighting should be used to the bare minimum by all shops and lightings on hoarding should be stopped immediately.

Reasonable thinking and proper management of handling this situation will keep the inhabitants of this country happy.

Good luck to making Kuwait a better place for all.

It's really sad that this Power Cuts are confined to Abbasiya. But I would like to suggest something to the people of Abbasiya. Why dont u guys go out of your houses instead of crying. The Men only go till down the building to drop their 'Nurse 'wives. The women are only seen with the bible. There's much more in life,so treat this as an opportunity and get out of your houses .Other than Gulfmart ,there are malls where its not a must to purchase.Just go out have fun.I too live in abbasiya and am suffering from this torture .This torture should be for all areas where people have their AC'S 24/7 whether thier dead or alive in the house. So,i hope this torture will end and at the same time ppl drop the lungis, wear pants and get out..

whats disturbing to me as a resident of jaleeb is..why havnt this news cum up in the daily paper. There is not even one sentence about jaleeb power cuts or not even a statement from MEW on whats happening. y are we kept as a negelected group?

will such a thing happen in kuwaiti areas? never..they would have adjusted with generators and make sure the residents wont have even 10 mins shortage of electrcity. But jaleeb are like SLUMS OF KUWAIT.Who cares? We have an indian embassy..Hope sm1 is working there.

what havnt the kuwait or arab times covered it?

what we should do is BOYCOTT this daily papers.Dnt buy them from shops.Make sure the shoppers pass info to the times office.let them cum and investigate.Until and unless it cums in the front page of the times..we should never consider that they treat us as HUMANS

If there is shortage of power, the burden should be shared among allthe people alike irrespective of their identity. It is so sad to see that only "Ajanabis" are targetted for this power saving! If it were were in America or India it would have been a worldwide issue just like what thappened to some actor when he was detained for interogation just because his name had resembalce with some extremists. Here nobody knows what is extended to expats in this Arabian lands! I am so sad to see the pathetical situation of small infants (including mine) under scorching temperature of 55-60 degree. Nobody there to make any voice? All are busy wearing tie and suite possing for photos with political leaders from Kerala.

17-06 -2010 11.00am the power shut down is going on and at every 2hours these power cut , They are not even thinking of small children’s living in that area. Available power should distribute equally in interval cutting/distribution among areas (keeping only emergency services) to all peoples considering equally why it is happening in the same area only, you can cut the electricity in the different area, and the emergency number in Khaitan never will be picked up or engaged

Why this partiality to us. where we go to sleep every night? poor children mid night get up because of extreme heat and cry! no humanity for the poeple cut power at the interval of 2hrs for the duration of 2hours exactly.the are very prompt in this matter. We are going to die if they continue this. mid night when we are in deep sleep sudden power off and children gets up and feel giddyness and we have to fan them with paper!India is better than here even though shortage of power there. maximum 2-3 hrs power cut is there! We understand the power situation in Kuwait, and we are ready to cooperate with the authorities if in case of any power cut is required. But the situation here is Abbasiya is different, only some particular area is affected where mostly the Indian families are staying, all around Abbasiya still there is no any problem, if it is a power cut it has to be done in proper way, all should sacrifice equally to pass through the bottle neck. Finding the real reason for this situation as every body knows it’s very easy, the main transformer to supply the power to Abbasiya area is the same as before but the number of buildings and the number of flats has increased almost 500 to 600%, it is too much for the current transformer it has to replaced with the new then only the problem will solved. Temporarily one or two portable generators may solve the issue till the new transformer to replace the existing. Also we all have to reduce the usage of power and water in order to support the concerned authorities to maintain the power supply of the country. Our Indian Embassy can do a better role in this regard; they can take this issue to the higher level to find a solution for this problem, I am sure they already knows this issue. We hope for the best. God help us

Dear all, it is very strange to note that the power cut being applied for the past two days in most part of Abbassiya where all Indians expatriates stay, for every 2 hour without any fail irrespective of day or night not, even thinking of how a person can survive in this country with out electricity on this terrible heat.

Ofcourse, we accept power cut at this situation, but it should be applied to all areas. NOT ONLY TO ONE AREA ALONE CONTINUOUSLY. We too givies rent like other areas and also pay without any default the electricity bills. So, do power cut giving justice to all areas equally with notifying each area the time. So that atleast we can plan and adjust the situation. As an indian expatriate, Indian Embassy should bring this matter to the attention of the Kuwaiti Authorities and do the needful.

Its horrible to see that only Jleeb Area is targeted for power cut. It sonly harrassment for the expatrites who lives in jleeb, if this is meant of power saving then why there is no power cut in other areas, why only jleeb people have to suffer round the clock. Secondly, why the Govt. gave no objection to the Kuwaitis to make 10 floor appartments compare to earlier 5 floors. Please think abt the families who have small kids and their families who have to attend duty. Is this a power saving or harrassing expatriates?

Stephen Joseph
Saturday, June 19, 2010
I think this is not a officel power cut But a serious mistake made by MEW giving new connections to the newly constructed multistoreyed buildings by VASTA with out considering the capacity of local Substations. Therefore the tentents should collectively complain to the owners NOT THE WATCH MAN / HARES of the buildings regarding the lack of electricity and the owner should approach the M E W and advise and pressurise them to to increase the capacity of the substation or increase the number substation.and that would surely take time.so in order to solve the problem immediately generators should be installed at convenient places to provide electricity. It is our right to get the electricity in our flats.

The process of power cut in Jaleeb Shyoukh is terrible, with every 02 hrs, with no power and water, along with the souring high tempreature. Its been known only the expatriates at Jaleeb are being targeted.

Think of the children who are also suffering of exessive heat during night and their parents who are mostly office goers , fanning the kids at night, and are not in a position to attend the office, if such act continues.

Some action is to be taken from the Indian Embassy with the concerned Kuwait Electricity Department to stop this sort practice on war foot.

Show some humanitarism towards Expatriates at least in this matter.

Dear all... the planned power cut is only for Jaleeb residents. Not in anyother parts of Kuwait. Poor expats. Let you people suffer.. this is the attitude of the authorities. In city and shopping malls the huge display boards are illuminated 24 hours. The planned power cut is not applicable to them. A country with all planning without PLANNING AT ALL. The maximum defaulters of electricity bills are not expats. Still the discrimination is towards residents of the center of ABBASIA.

power cut in centre of Jleeb only!!!others have fulltime power and enjoying whole day with AC. but centre of Jleeb residents suffering every 2hours alternatively because of power cut. That means 12 hours in a day!!! Haram! If it is planned power cut it should be some fixed time for all the areas of Kuwait. But it is discrimination against the Indians!

The power cut officials are enjoying with same area power cut strategy! Please let it be uniformal to all so that we also will enjoy a little with AC for some time and all should be treated equal!High temperature and no power in the night also. Haram!!! We are dying with the high temperature here.

As an expat, i personally welcome the decision for power cuts in kuwait, this may have seen good results, but my suggestion to the "POWER SUPPLY OFFICIALS" is to be slightly more professional in this aspect, please publish in the newspapers, about the prescribed timings for powercuts FOR EACH AREAS, please don't give us surprises, just think about the dangerous situation,if women and children are stuck in a lift for hours while a SURPRISE POWER CUT is happened?

It has been noticed that many area people r using electricity unnecessarly u can see in shop supermarkets etc many bulbs r used we request that their should be limited numbers of bulbs AC in every were this should be the guide line to everyone in many areas we can seen old flat which were having four floor has been converted to 10/12 floor so the consumption is going up production is less so its govt of kuwait to take necessary step.
