"My Book Club" - Welcome all kids to an unique initiative to fall in love with books

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.

-Charles W. Eliot

There are parents who buy books for their children and there are those who do not; there are homes which are filled with books and there are homes which are not and there are parents who hold the tiny fingers of their toddlers and make them gently step into the world of magic and joy by reading aloud to their kids when they cannot read themselves, and there are parents who do not find time to do that... Some of us do buy Book for our kids, and fill the bookshelves at home with all kinds of them, but then we do not have the time to make our kids fall in love with them.

Well, Gurukul has decided to step in and try to do all of the above for you...

You do not need to buy the books, and you do not need to fill your homes with books and nor do you have to struggle to find time to be with the kids when they read or teach them the art of reading and narrating. Gurukul will do all of this at its soon-to-be-launched My Book Club at its premises in Salmiya. The launch event is an open invitation to all and shall be at 7pm on Thursday, 10th January. The Book Club shall start functioning, from Friday, 11th January (every Friday--from 12noon till 1pm).

There are lots of reports in circulation which pointedly reveal that children who read Books (other than the reading that is required for them to complete school education) are much more likely to be academically sound, relaxed, focused and less unquiet. One such report suggests that a child who reads 15 minutes daily (other than school text books) is exposed to more than a million words of text, every year.

An endeavor initiated by Gurukul and Navniit Gandhi, My Book Club is an invitation to children to 'come and fall in love with Books'. Speaking with indiansinkuwait.com, Dr Navniit Gandhi said: "We will, through MBC, be the catalysts who will make the kids fall in love with Books so that they become their truest friends. We shall try to bring those expressions of joy and delight on their faces... It is a world of magic and joy out there. Someone needs to hold the tiny hands and make them step inside this Paradise. MBC shall try to do this." She further explained that in the My Book Club, any child aged 10-18 years can take membership, come on Fridays (without carrying any gadget/mobile etc), sit and read quietly for 45 minutes or so and then everyone will share what have they read and discuss the new or difficult words that they come across that day. Every third or fourth Friday, there will be a story-reading session, wherein the child will learn the art of narrating stories. The MBC offers a wonderful and fun-filled collection of books of stories and information, apt for the said age-group, and there is no need for any child to bring a book from home.

Dr Navniit Gandhi or a member of the Gurukul team shall personally be there on all Fridays, reading along with the kids and organizing the story-telling sessions too.

Come, and make your kids step inside this enchanting world, where they may find joys that never pale and also, their truest friends!!!
