Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association – Kuwait Chapter has organized 201st Birth Anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan the founder of AMU Aligarh, on 01 Nov 2018 at Grand Marafie Ball Room - Hotel Radisson Blu Kuwait. Sir Syed Day, as it is popularly known, is celebrated every year at AMU Campus - Aligarh UP, 3 off - campus centres namely Malappuram - Kerala, Mushidabad - West Bengal, Kishanganj - Bihar and worldwide by its Alumni. The program commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holly Quran, followed by the National Anthem of Kuwait as well as India and concluded with the vote of thanks. The lead compere of the program was the General Secretary Javed Warsi, whereas the Chief Guest introduction was given by the President Tanwir Alam apart from his Presidential Address and the Vice President Asad Khan steered the prize distribution and concluded the event with vote of thanks. Thus, Jt. Secretary Sabah Omar introduced the famous Indian Ghazal singer and poet Mr. Johny Foster, who presented AMU Tarana along with the Tarana Team and a couple of beautiful Ghazals. Mr. Johny Foster is the senior instructor at AMU Cultural Education Centre Aligarh, who was invited by AMU Old Boys Association Kuwait to perform in the event.

However, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (Rtd) former Dy Chief of the Army Staff (P&S) and the erstwhile Vice Chancellor of AMU – Aligarh, attended the program as the Chief Guest along with his wife Mrs. Sabiha Shah. The Chief Guest delivered a very powerful speech with main focus on education and empowerment and emphasized that the real tribute to the great man Sir Syed Ahmed Khan would be to carry forward his mission of educating and empowering the marginalized sections of the society. H.E. Mr. K Jeeva Sagar - The Ambassador of India to Kuwait was the “Guest of Honor” of the event, but could not attend due to some preoccupation and designated Mr. Sanjeev Saklani – The Second Secretary Indian Embassy, who addressed the gathering and received momento on His Excellency’s behalf. The Souvenir “Samar E Syed” was unveiled and the AMU Old Boys Association Kuwait’s website www.amuobakuwait.com was re-launched by the Chief Guest along with the Team AMUOBA, the distinguished guests and the Souvenir Team. The AMU Tarana was presented by the Tarana Team comprised of ladies and gents Alumni and the famous poem of Allama Iqbal “Dua” was presented by the lovely daughters of Alumni. A delicious continental dinner meticulously blended with Arabic and Indian cuisine with large variety of salads and deserts was served, after the vote of thanks. The program was attended by the majority of AMU Alumni and their families, who are businessmen, engineers, doctors, management professionals and highly paid technicians well placed in the private as well as government sectors, including oil companies.

Furthermore, organising the event of such magnanimous scale hadn’t been an easy task and certain Team members of AMU Old Boys Association Kuwait have displayed an impeccable level of commitment and dedication, right from the early stage of conceptualisation and planning, to formulating strategies, to detailing, to execution and eventually replicating the delivery, precisely as per the plan. It has been rightly said that, the numbers don’t matters much, what matters is the commitment, dedication, focus and desire to outclass every time without fail. That is exactly what happened and certain members of the team had really spent countless number of sleepless nights and sweating days for 6 months and without them Sir Syed Day 2018 would not have been presented in the form it was. Moreover, the efforts of volunteers from Alumni had not been any less either and played the role of "Cherry on the Cake" and AMU Old Boys’ Association Kuwait is grateful to them for their selfless service to the community.

Last but not the least, AMU Old Boys’ Association Kuwait would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Tarana Team, our daughters for performing “Dua”, Stage Management Team, Reception Team, Venue Management Team, Menu planning and food Management Team, Editorial Team of Souvenir “Samar E Syed”, certain dedicated GB members for assisting in prize distribution, Mr. Razi Khan for background presentation, Miss Samia Adil for reciting the verse from the Holy Quran, Ms Arshi Khan for receiving Momento on behalf of her father Mr. Mohammad Saleem – The Founding President of AMOUBA Kuwait, Dr. Anis Ahmed for taking us through the struggle of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in establishing AMU Aligarh, The Chief Guest Lt.
