Kuwait Cricket Conducts a successful Tri-Series for Women

Kuwait Blue remains unbeaten and crowned deserving champions

After a successful talent hunt program in August and September 2018, Kuwait Cricket hosted a one day Cricket Festival in the form of a Tri Series for aspiring Women Cricketers in the presence of large number of families and supporters at Entertainment City Cricket Ground - Doha.

Kuwait Green led by Captain Amna Tariq, Kuwait Blue led by Priyada Murali and Kuwait Red lead by Khadija Khalil took part in this prestigious event as part of Kuwait Cricket's development program for Women's cricket.

Kuwait Blue played Kuwait Red in their opening match followed by Kuwait Green v/s Kuwait Blue and Kuwait Green v/s Kuwait Red at the picturesque facility of Entertainment City Cricket Ground - Doha.

Kuwait Blue remains unbeaten and crowned deserving champions.

Kuwait Red won one match and lost one, hence claiming the 2nd position.

Kuwait Green lost both of their respective matches and finished 3rd.

Highlights of the Matches:

First match between Kuwait Blue vs Kuwait Red.

Kuwait Blue elected to Bowl. Kuwait Red Scored 82/2 in 12 allotted overs.

Top scorer from Kuwait Red was Khadija with 13 runs. Kuwait Blue’s captain Priyada took one wicket for 18 runs.

In reply, Kuwait Blue chased down 83 losing only one wicket in 9.2 overs.

Priyada scored 45 runs, Shivon scored 12 runs. Akriti took one wicket for 18 runs.

Kuwait Blue won by 9 wickets.

Priyada declared the Player of the match for her all-rounder performance.

Second match between Kuwait Blue vs Kuwait Green.

Kuwait Green elected to field. Kuwait Blue Scored 73/5 in 12 allotted overs.

Maria Scored 18 runs. Mariyam Ashraf took 2 wickets for 20 runs. Amna took 1 wicket for 17 runs.

In reply, Kuwait Green put up a good score of 71 runs losing 5 wickets in 12 allotted overs.

Captain Amna 21 runs and Maryam Ashraf 17 runs played sensible innings, however, an excellent diving catch from Priyada to get Amna out was the turning point of the match.

Kuwait Blue won the nail biting match by 2 runs.

Shivon was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets giving away only 11 runs. Maria took one wicket for 14 runs.

Maria declared the Player of the match for her all-rounder performance.

Third match between Kuwait Red vs Kuwait Green.

Kuwait Red elected to bat. Kuwait Red Scored 88 runs losing only one wicket of Khadija who played a prudent knock of 33 runs and was well supported by Ankita and Afia.

Left arm all-rounder Mariyam hyder took 1 wicket giving away 14 runs only.

In reply, Kuwait Green’s Mariyam Hyder played very well whilst scoring 38 runs along with Captain Amna (20 runs), however, they could not chase down the target and lost by only 3 runs in a nail biting finale. Shrouq took one wicket for 15 runs.

Khadija declared the Player of the match award for her Captain’s inning.

Overall, there was some high standard of cricket at display throughout the day. Impressive batting from Amna, Priyada, Hyder, Khadija and Maria along with disciplined and quality bowling from Maria, Hyder, Priyada, Amna, Ankita, and Afia.

The presentation party was conducted by Umer Salahuddin where Director General Sajid Ashraf appreciated the support of all parents and families for encouraging young girls to come forward and be an integral part of Kuwait Women's Cricket development programs and lauded Coach Tariq Rasool Shah for his consistent efforts towards the women cricketers with a certificate of appreciation.

Director Seniors and Corporate Rishi Jayan, Director Match officials Naveen Jayan and Director Logistics and facilities Robert Dsouza gave away the Player of the match awards.

Director Women’s Mehboob Khan along with Director General Sajid Ashraf gave away the winner’s trophy to Kuwait Blue’s captain Priyada Murali.

Senior umpires and match officials Nadim, Hisham, Aslam, Fahim and Coach Tariq Rasool gave away the certificates to all the participants.
