Indian Embassy celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahtma Gandhi; Prominent dignitaries attend the event

Marking the launch of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Gandhi, the Embassy of India Kuwait celebrated the Gandhi Jayanthi at the Embassy premise today.

The event started with a floral tribute to the father of the nation by the Chief Guest H E Mr Ali Sulaiman Al-Saeed, Asst. Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and State of Kuwait. He was escorted by the Indian Ambassador HE Sri K Jeeva Sagar.

Ambassador K Jeeva Sagar welcomed the distinguished guest who came to the Embassy premise early morning to attend the event. "Gandhi silences resistance and spoke more eloquently than the ripping sounds of thousands of guns and cannons. Gandhiji has effortlessly combined statesmanship with massive popularity not just in India but beyond borders. The best tribute we are capable of paying is to invoke his spirit and blessings to give us the strengths and humanities to try and follow his values and ideals to the best of our abilities and pray for the best," Ambassador Jeeva Sagar said.

H E Tarek Al-Shaikh, Resident Coordinator for United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) conveyed the message of the Secretary-General of UN António Guterres. "Gandhiji's Nonviolence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind is still valid at this day and should be followed," Mr Tariq said.

Mr Bader Al-Duwaish, Deputy Secretary General at National Council for Culture, Arts & Letters (NCCAL) also spoke about the contributions of Great Mahatma Gandhi.

Ambassador Jeeva Sagar along with the Chief Guest and other dignitaries in symbolic release, released the commemorative stamp on the occasion issued by the Government of India.

The event was attended by large number of Kuwaiti and diplomatic dignitaries including Jamal Alnouri - Chairman of KNPC, Mr Salem Al-Hamdan, Deputy Asst. Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs, Prominent Kuwaiti personalities including Mr Yousef Al-Bader, Mr Yousuf Al-Ghusain, Dr Mustafa Y Behbahani, Mr Mohammed Karam, Mrs Vira Sadiq Al-Mutawa, and Ambassadors of various countries including UK, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, Iraq, Korea and Kyrgyz Republic. Many prominent members of the Indian community also attended the event.

Various patriotic songs also presented by the students of Indian Community School and Indian Educational Schools (Bhavans Kuwait).
