Summer vacation is the time of year everybody on this whole wide world waits for, whether you’re an adult or a school student. The time of year when we finally get to drop our pens and pencils, get comfy on the sofa and do whatever we want. Well …. That is what everyone thinks anyway but I am sooooo the opposite. I mean it; look this is my reaction after I finally get home from school for the holidays. “Yes! The summer holidays are finally here, no more exams, no more lectures, no more notes, no more boring equations! It’s a dream come true. I am going to read and I am going to ……. going to……going to….. . Hang on a nanosecond what on earth am I actually supposed to do here. I’ll be bored to death. Uhhh…….. (Despairing moan) Amma don’t bother to make lunch for me, I’ll be in my room……sleeping” you too?... I feel your pain after all who won’t get bored, I mean I probably have one of the largest collections of books in the world but even I get bored reading famous five more than a thousand times. So for all my amigos out there who are going to be staying in Kuwait for the rest of the summer, and for all of you who have already bored yourself to tears, aloha this article is just for you. Plus I have got a whole lot of life hacks for you too.

Visit the touristic attractions of our foster country: I mean Kuwait isn’t that small a country right, there are plenty of places to visit for all kinds of people. Want to boost your Instagram account? Koee baat nahin! Go to the Kuwait towers, especially at night when they light up. They are gorgeous. Why not even go visit the Science and Natural History Museum and surprise your friends with selfies and usies in front of a T-rex. If you want to bring your restless mind to a harmonious and meditative state then Al-Shaheed Park, Al-Kout Mall and Boulevard Park are great places to visit at night because of the magical scenery and musical fountains.(I believe Al-Kout Mall is under re-development right now)

Really feel the heat, jump into the pool: In other words, go to Aqua Park of course! This is one of the best ways to have fun and enjoy super cool rides as well. The visit to the water park is a great time for family and friends to have fun and bond with each other. Take photos, send them to your friends and show them what a great time you are having!

Stuck at home, call your friends over: I find that this is a great way to relax and have fun, plus you can do this any day of the week. Call over one or more friends and have fun like you never did. You can have a movie marathon, cook, play games, and just have fun! Also best friends make everything better — there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. True friends are sources of joy, laughter, and even a healthy dose of tough love. A recent study revealed that good friends also significantly impact your health as you age.

Learn a new language: Just for the fun of it find a language and try to learn it. It would be better to start with an easy language first, depending on what language you are fluent. Fluent in English? Try Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese. Fluent in Hindi? Try Sanskrit, Guajarati, Marathi, Bengali or Punjabi. You get the drill. Trust me; you’ll thank me one of these days. Know those books or movies which never turn up in English only as those 1 minute clips? BUT when you are then mindlessly going through YouTube you find the whole movie but it is in German. Now you’ll finally be able to watch and understand it. You’re welcome. ?

Try an experiment: I don’t mean burning your house down. But try some basic, safe but interesting experiments. You’ll be able to learn a concept easier and have fun. Have your parents around for supervision and to make sure you don’t do something silly. Why not create a lighter in which the flame floats in midair or create your own pet monster.

Go to the beach: Yeah people! Dunk yourself in the water or build yourself a sand castle with mini windows and a mini door with a flag and seashells. Talking about sea shells our beaches are covered with them so why not collect them and make little memorials for friends and family. But don’t take too many mind you, they are pretty and at the same time they are important to the ecosystem too.

Make a friendship scrapbook: This is for you expressionists out there. I mean everyone has a BFF right? Well then why not dedicate a book to you and your friend. Not only is it fun but it will take up about two to three weeks of the holiday which would have otherwise ended in unprofitable boredom. It can also help you focus, increase concentration and increase your creativity level. Get innovative, after all , all you need is a scrapbook, some photos, glitter, ribbon, markers, a ‘can do’ attitude, your BFF and abracadabra you’ve got something Instagram worthy.
Now some life hacks to make sure you don’t melt in those bright rays.

Wear cotton, thin, and light coloured clothes. The explanation for this is elementary science. The cotton cloth lets air in and absorbs any moisture. The thin fabric will let the breeze pass through easier and light colours like white, pale blue, pale pink and pastel colours reflect the sun rays rather than absorb them

Wear sun glasses outside: Sun glasses are ideal while outside during the day time, they absorb rays of light because of their dark colour and prevent the UV rays from entering our eyes. For those of you who already wear glasses ask your parents to get you some prescription sun glass lens. If this option is not available to you wear wide brim hats.

Going out to shop? Go at night: You know pretty well that the day time is sweltering hot, but if you are really desperate to go shopping then it is probably best to do your shopping in the evening. Don’t worry there are many grocery stores and malls that remain open till late night. And anyway the shops won’t be open during the morning because of the heat.

Drink loads of water: It is very easy to get dehydrated during the summer due sweat and heat. A lack of water is dangerous to your body and it can make you crave food even if you are not hungry. Drink water every one to two hours, if you are pretty addicted to your phone and you don’t drink much water then a great way to make you drink water is to put a water bottle on top of your phone and so every time you reach for the phone you’ll notice the bottle and will be tempted to have a sip

I now hope that these tips and tricks for the summer will be of use to you, your family and friends. The summer may be hot but it is up to you whether you are going to sulk and let yourself melt or take advantage of what you’ve got and be as cool as ice, ice that doesn’t melt.
