Department of Telecom (DoT) outlines SIM re-verification process for NRIs, foreigners without Aadhar card

Tuesday, January 9, 2018

A large number of overseas Indians have been making representations about facing difficulty in operating their mobile connections procured in India as the telecom operators are insisting on linking Aadhaar number with the mobile number. As most of them do not possess Aadhaar Card, they are unable to link their Indian mobile number with the Aadhaar number. The matter was taken up with the Department of Telecom (DoT) for exempting overseas Indians from linking Aadhaar with their Indian mobile connections and issuing suitable advisory to telecom service providers (TSPs), Embassy of India informed in a press statement.

The telecom department outlined detailed procedure for telcos to undertake mobile re-verification of foreign nationals and NRIs. The procedure has been spelt out for re-verification of mobile connections of foreign nationals, as well as NRI subscribers who either do not have Aadhaar or their mobile number is not registered with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The detailed step for re-verification of Mobile number is available in the DoT website http://www.dot.gov.in/sites/default/files/

Indian NRI --- Clearly it has been notified that All NRI do not require to make an Aadhar card ---- I do not know about Pan card --- Even if you are putting in stocks market or opening a NRI bank account - you have to say you do not have a Pan card nor an aadhar card. -- So they just take your Passport copy with your current work residence copy -- thats all ---
Moreover all your accounts you can link with your international number and you get free SMS message or any transaction you have made.. So you do not need the Indian telephone number .. Please throw it away and do not brew or excel unnecessary spreading wrong messages. --- Read the news ''''

I have gone through the whole document describing the procedure. It is a best example of efficiency of Babu's of India. My personal opinion is "do not take Indian cell numbers". All banks in India sends international sms for the NRE & NRO transactions. Just give the bank your Ooredoo or Zain or Viva number. For other purpose, just borrow a sim from your relative or friend to use while in India. That's it.

Why don't these babus make the procedure simple. It takes ages to read and understand what is written.
