ICSK Conducted Language Club Programme, 2017-18

“When a people are enslaved, as long as they hold fast to their language it is as if they had the key to their prison.”

On the auspicious day of 13th November 2017, the Language Club of Indian Community School (Senior), Kuwait held its annual programme in the school auditorium. The occasion was blessed with the benign presence of the Chief Guest, Dr. Esther Sam-English Professor at the Arab Open University, Dr. V. Binumon- Senior Administrator and Principal ICSK (Senior), HR Manager- Mr. Deepak Seth and Mrs. Shehnaz Gujral- Language Club Coordinator.

Dr. Esther Sam, holding a PhD in English Literature, was an ex-principal of Mathew’s Academy Indian School, Kuwait. She is currently a professor in English at the Arab Open University.

The ceremony began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Quran followed by a prayer song “Bless the Lord, O my Soul” by the melodious school choir followed by Kuwait’s national anthem. Master Vivek Dalbehra duly welcomed the audience as well as the guests of prominence in his welcome address. Then, Dr. V. Binumon gave a thoughtful speech highlighting the importance of language in our lives. The chief guest, Dr. Esther Sam addressed the gathering emphasizing the proficiency of the English language. Thereafter, the logo of the Language club was unveiled.

The energetic students of ICSK exhibited their extravagant talents through a wide variety of poems, songs, speeches, short films and skits in different languages which added multicoloured rhythmic vibes to the program as a whole. Character enactment of famous characters like Mark Antony, Hermione, etc was amazing and enthralling to the audience. A French Power point presentation gave insight into the language, culture and tradition of France. A dance performance and a group song proved to be the best segments of the program.

The program ended with the vote of thanks rendered by Mrs. Shehnaz Gujral followed by the Indian National Anthem. All in all, the program was an exotic one which voiced that “The development of language is part of the development of the personality, for words are the natural means of expressing thoughts and establishing understanding between people.”
