MP Propose ‘exit permits’ for domestic workers

Monday, October 23, 2017

Parliamentarian Majed Al-Mutairi has presented another proposal to prohibit domestic workers from traveling unless they obtain permission from their sponsors.

The lawmaker also pointed out that once a domestic worker is reported absconding or arrested, a thorough investigation must be carried out immediately to determine their whereabouts, the persons who harbored them and oblige these persons to pay for the sponsors’ expenses in hiring the workers including their air tickets.

Earlier last week, MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei proposed imposing exit visas for expatriates working in the private sector to be able to leave the country. According to his proposal, expatriates working in the private sector must obtain a special permit from the public manpower authority to be able to leave the country.

There are some private companies in kuwait not paying pending salary and indemnity of resigned workers and staffs. It would be great help for such employees waiting for long duration, if any of these MPs are pointing out such violations also.

This 'exit permit' law is against 'Human Rights' laws and is actually banning the freedom of passage even though persons holding valid passport, visas and residencies. So, what's the point of having a Passport (meaning to pass freely from one port to another). I think our Kuwaiti MPs does not know the meaning of 'passport'.Again its another form of modern slavery, the employees are under the mercy of employers by this law.
