Kuwait lift ban on recruitment of female Indian domestic workers

Monday, September 18, 2017

Residency Affairs General Department has lifted the ban on the recruitment of female domestic workers from India. This was followed by the India government decision to cancel the bank guarantee imposed on the recruitment of Indian domestic workers.

However, last week government of India confirmed that only six government recruitment agencies are authorized to recruit female domestic workers to Kuwait, which are, Non-Resident Keralite Affairs Department (NORKA-ROOTS), Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants Ltd ((ODEPC), Overseas Manpower Corporation Limited (OMCL), Uttar Pradesh Financial Corporation, government of Uttar Pradesh, Telanga Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM), and the Overseas Manpower Company, Andhra Pradesh.

In 2014, Government of India mandated that every employer who wanted to recruit an Indian female domestic worker had to provide a bank guarantee of $2,500. Later last week Indian canceled this as it was not acceptable by Kuwait.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar is arriving in Kuwait on Sept 19 and 20th heading a high-level delegation to attend the Joint Working Group (JWG) in which many crucial bilateral issues including recruitment of maids are expected to come up for discussion.

Please dont spoil the name of our country. In my opinion no maid should come to kuwait. Earlier the decision was good but now tthis time agencies played. maids are getting handsome salary in India why they are comming here or any GCC. Now you all see all these maid mostly will be recruited from UP and Andra. they willl not get that salary what the agencies promiced them. please stop .
