Roshan Mahanama key note speaker of the evening

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Kuwait Chapter organized a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program and Ghabqa exclusively for its members. In light of the cricketing fever and the blessings of the holy month of Ramadan, the keynote speaker of the evening was the former Sri Lankan cricket captain and ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Mr. Roshan Mahanama, who flew down specially from Colombo.

Roshan Mahanama is a veteran of 52 test matches, more than 200 one day internationals and 35 T 20 international matches. After his retirement from international cricket he continued his association with the game and was an ICC match referee for 11 years officiating more than 300 international matches. In 2014, he was appointed to the Elite Panel of ICC match referees (Only referees who have officiated more than 200 matches form part of the panel).

The evening started with a brief address by the Chairperson of ICAI Kuwait Chapter CA Ritu Sharma welcoming the members. CA Kaizar Shakir, Secretary ICAI Kuwait introduced the cricketing legend to the audience briefly recounting some of Roshan's cricketing exploits, his ICC stint and more recently his philanthropic activities.
The excitement was palpable and the chartered accountants of Kuwait took their guard, as Roshan began his talk. The session was on ‘Sportsmanship, Leadership and Corporate Synergy’. As is to be expected of an elite athlete, Roshan's presentation was crisp and meticulous. His talk was interspersed with short video clips on teamwork and achieving life's goals. He tried to illustrate how sports teaches us many things like teamwork, fighting till the end, never giving up in times of adversities respecting different cultures and motivating the whole team to a common goal. He kept emphasizing the values of humility, respect, friendship, family which brought out a very different side of him which was humbling. The session was inspiring as it was insightful and entertaining and motivational with the audience listening to his every word with rapt attention and received a thunderous applause as he concluded. The floor was then open for a Q&A session and the members were very excited to question Roshan.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India were delighted to welcome the members of the Sri Lankan Chartered Accountants association who graced the event and look forward to increased cooperation with them on matters of mutual interest.

CA Altaf Kasmani , Chairman of the CPE committee of ICAI Kuwait proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the Chapter; profusely thanking Mr Roshan Mahanama for graciously accepting the invitation. He also thanked the sponsors, Hasawi Group and Advanced Technology Company (ATC) for sponsoring the event and Ahli United Bank (AUB)for being its partner. Roshan Mahanama was then presented with a memento by Mr. Ranjan Sen, GM Retail Banking, Ahli United Bank. The event was compared by CA Noel Cherian
