MP justified proposal to ban free medicine to expatriates

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

MP Safaa Al-Hashem justified her proposal, which she made few days ago, to ban giving free medicine to expatriates at public clinics and hospitals by saying that the proposal is for improving health services for Kuwaiti citizens and achieve “social justice”.

Earlier she proposed that the KD 1 and KD 2 paid by expatriate patients at clinics and hospitals respectively should be considered as examination fees to allow them to be seen by doctors. She said expat patients should then purchase the prescribed drugs from private drug stores.

MP clarified that her proposal aims at organizing the medical sector and allowing Kuwaiti patients easy access to the government-run health sector. She also said that all the five Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are implementing such thing and in those countries, expatriates are barred from public health services.

She also claimed that expatriate doctors prescribe large quantities of medicine to expatriate patients and this leads to squandering of public funds.

Yes.
Govt sponsored healthcare and insurance have failed in developed countries where everyone pays taxes. Of course it will fail here. Private insurance is the future. Takaful ki jai.

Guys relax. This is not going to be implemented & an official circular has already been issued by the MOH stating that this will not be implemented as long as the private insurance project is not launched similar to Qatar. These are just proposals which they come up with while relaxing in their diwaniyas. Anyway, no long term plans here hopefully...looking forward to moving back to India!!

Do whatever you want to do man. We have made up our mind. No long term goals in this country (that means reduced spending). We are going soon. You don't need recession to spoil the country when you have geniuses to do the needful.

MP Safaa Al-Hashem,
Laws should be uniform for all human Beings as one and you have no right to put forth your will ahead of his highness, as he is the decider of these matters and wants to do good for people living on his land.

Stop govt health insurance. Just make it mandatory for the employers to provide health insurance or to have their own medical insurance at private clinics or hospitals.
