IES celebrated International Women’s Day

Indian Educational School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kuwait celebrated the International Women’s Day on Wednesday, the 8th of March, 2017. The program was organized entirely by the students of class 12, for an audience consisting of all the senior secondary students and teachers. This was the first time an event of this kind was organized in the school, and the vibrant young organizers ensured it was a day worth remembering and a day that made a difference with the gentlemen clad in pink and the ladies clad in blue.

The celebrations were kicked off with the ceremonial guard of honor offered by the boys, to the immense surprise of the lady teachers and the girls who walked in between the neat files of saluting gentlemen, to the school auditorium. Once there, the audience were shown a video compiled by Urvish Chokshi, which praised womanhood and the indomitable spirit inherent in every woman. A loud round of applause in response was followed by a staged debate between Ketan Maheshwasri and Shiv Govind, with the latter making an attempt to convince the former of the pivotal role played by women in moulding human society and the need of gender parity, a venture which proved successful in subsequent rebuttals moderated by Raj Bankoda. Two acclaimed budding musicians, Sheron Jacob and Dhanuish Ramakrishnan, performed a heartwarming compilation of songs praising women. This was followed by a stupendous dance performance by Devangshu Mazumder and Rohit Chandrahas, undoubtedly providing a brilliant finish to the mini-cultural show. In tandem, the mic was passed into the possession of the Senior Vice Principal, Mr. Suresh V Balakrishnan, who delivered a superb speech on “Women as Mothers” citing realistic instances of the pivotal roles played by mothers in good upbringing of children. He also went on to honour the presence of the senior most women of the institution, Ms. Sundaribala Sundaram (Dept. pf Hindi) and Ms. Kathoon (support staff) by gifting them with rose laden bouquets and chocolates. Mrs. Lalitha Premkumar, Vice Principal, Primary Wing extolled the efforts of the young men of Grade 12 in organizing a memorable day for the women to cherish forever. Raj Bankoda proposed the vote of thanks.

The entire program was organized with the objective of saluting women all over the globe, as well as to highlight the need for gender equality in today’s world. The audience unanimously in agreeing that both objectives were fulfilled over the course of the day’s celebrations. The desire to organize the same event the next year was evidently fresh in the minds of everyone in the audience, as they departed to attend the day’s classes.

Thanking the leadership of Bhavans for celebrating int'l women's day. All said and done the plight of women in India in a pitiable state. Tortured by the male dominant society and so these celebrations don't really matter. As a Bhavanite we appreciate the senior boys for their role and this is the first of its kind in any school I guess as I haven't read this in the media. Kudos once again and respect your mother first the woman in your life.
