KOC announces emergency after oil leak SE Kuwait

KUNA Monday, January 23, 2017

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) announced a state of emergency following an oil leak in southwest of Kuwait on Sunday, the company's spokesman said. Menahi Al-Enezi, also Acting Deputy CEO for Administrative and Financial affairs, said in a press statement KOC teams were at the scene of the leak and dealing with the situation in accordance with the relevant protocol. Al-Enezi said no reading of toxic gases was detected.

Meanwhile, The Environment Public Authority has dispatched a team to monitor air quality following an oil leak in southwest of Kuwait on Sunday, EPA Director General said.

Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Sabah, in a statement to KUNA, said EPA was in close contact with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to follow the oil leak in Al-Maqwa' area.

He confirmed that no increase in the normal pollutant levels was detected in the residential areas around Al-Maqwa'. Sheikh Abdullah said the northwesterly wind would help disperse gas emitted from the leaked area. "There is no reason to worry until now," he said, and urged the public to get updates from official sources.
