MP Hashem wants to charge road taxes on expatriates living in Kuwait

Friday, January 13, 2017

MP Safa Al-Hashem called for imposing more charges and taxes on expatriates including charging road taxes on all expatriates living in the country, local daily Kuwiat Times reported.

According to Kuwiat Times report, MP Hashem said that increasing the lliving cost for expatriates will pave the way for amending the demographic structure.

She said that the government should increase electricity and water charges, impose new taxes like value added tax (VAT) and others and even road taxes on all expatriates living in the country.

The lawmaker said that if this policy is strictly implemented for the next three years, it will help rectify the demographic structure in the country. By raising the cost of living for expatriates, Kuwaiti employers will recruit only high-skilled foreigners that the country needs. It will eventually lead to reducing the number of expatriates in Kuwait, daily reported quoting MP.

It is an excellent idea and to be implemented immediately.

Expatriates shaped this country and made it known to the world for which it is the reward and recognition.

This idea is enough to ruin this country and its people.

We are ready to pay taxes. But look at the europe and America or australia....they charge taxes but they also gives facilities to expatriate like free medical, nationalities and free education to children.
Are they gonna provide these kind of facility? Or just want to kick out in the name of taxes.

its the low salaried expat workers who are a great asset to Kuwait. The more burden the nation puts on these valuable manpower, the more impact it will have on the functioning of the country, especially if the country wants quality low paid manpower.

I think the MPs are panic because most of them are uneducated & fools. Instead of pushing expats with the walls they need to suggest for beneficial investments not only on Starbuck or I hope type of restaurants. Seems they re lacking of wisdoms & planning, GOD bless them.

Our company is ready to pay all tax increases for all expat employees just like we provide medical insurance and visa fees.
If their family members are required to pay taxes then we will restructure our staff to be only bachelors and single women.
Good luck

I feel the MP is wrongly informed, the country needs more unskilled workers as Kuwaiti Nationals hesitate to take meagre jobs like cleaning, construction, nursing, mechanical, drivers, household jobs and so on. Most of the new generation Kuwaitis are taking up skilled and blue collar govt. jobs available. Raising the living cost of expatriates will lead to higher labor costs.
